Congratulations Amy!

On August 19th, Amy received the keys to her new home! We are so proud of all she has accomplished—she truly deserves a lifetime of happiness in her new home.

Thank you to House of Hope for this amazing partnership as we celebrate Amy's completion of the Framing Hope Program! This program pairs Case Management at House of Hope, assisting single mothers in finding stable employment and financial literacy, with Iowa Heartland Habitat's Homeownership Program.

Staff Tour Day

This year’s Staff Tour Day was a blast! We stopped for coffee at The Building in Parkersburg, explored our project sites, played mini golf and raced go-karts at Palmers, and enjoyed a delicious lunch from Blue Barn.

Staff Tour Day is our chance for office, ReStore, and construction staff to come together, tour our past, current, and future projects, and see firsthand the impact we’re making in our communities. It’s also a time to connect, laugh, and enjoy each other’s company outside of our daily work.

Karl has volunteered at the ReStore as a cashier for 9 years! Before retiring, he worked at John Deere for 33 years. 

He likes to read and work on projects around his house.

Board Member with Heart

We’re excited to welcome Brent Buhr as our new Board President after serving a year as Vice President. Since joining the board in 2021, Brent has looked for new ways to grow Iowa Heartland.



He shared, “Seeing the organization work together for a noble cause that has a lifelong impact on homebuyers is the most rewarding part.”

Brent partnered with UNI to study the impact of our work, finding that homeownership through Iowa Heartland is linked to life satisfaction, well-being, health, and stronger relationships. “This confirms that our efforts are positively impacting our homeowners’ lives.”



Outside of volunteering, Brent enjoys gardening and encourages others: “Don’t be afraid to try something new. Even if you fail, you will learn from the experience.”

Parkersburg Rehab Kickoff Event

On October 6th, we’re hosting a Parkersburg Rehab Kickoff Event on World Habitat Day. This special event gives you the chance to meet the family, tour their future home, and learn more about how you can get involved in this exciting rehab project.

Gallop for Good 5K

Huge thanks to the Independence School Student Council for hosting the Gallop for Good 5K! Over 70 runners joined in, raising $2,000 for Iowa Heartland Habitat for Humanity.

We’re so grateful for the students’ dedication and the community’s support in building homes, communities, and hope.
