She is an award-winning designer, published author, educator, blogger, "sewlebrity," and stylist with a degree in apparel, merchandising, and design from Iowa State University.
"I really value and embrace my ISU education and experience," Joi said. "The textiles and clothing department allowed me to really grow and push myself in my career. I have fond memories of Friday nights in my dorm room creating new designs and just pushing my design skills. My diverse skills have helped me achieve many exciting things in the fashion and design industry."
Dress Forms Design Studio, LLC
, provides a variety of services to the fashion and home sewing industries. She works one-on-one with clients in her private studio creating eye-catching designs and couture designs.
Her industry services include pattern making, design, prototype development, pattern writing, article writing, illustrations, creative marketing concepts, and other freelance services. In 2014, she became an official licensed designer for McCall Pattern Company.
Joi authored the books "Create the Perfect Fit" and "Designer Joi's Fashion Sewing Workshop." She teaches live and online classes on platforms such as Craftsy, founded the national destination sewing event called Designer Joi's Sewing Holiday, writes a fitting column for Sew News magazine, owns a U.S. patent on an apparel item being licensed for mass market, is designing a fabric line, and is the national spokes-designer for the Love of Fashion program sponsored by sewing machine manufacturer Baby Lock USA.
Joi is another great example of the 100,000 ISU alumni living in Iowa and contributing to the economic health of the state.
