IVHFH HOSTS UI SOFTBALL VOLUNTEERS
The IVHFH construction crew hosted the University of Iowa Softball team last month for the Jane Hagedorn Women Build Wall Build! Volunteers worked alongside Jane and the Bea Day Plumbers crew to construct the walls that will frame the Jane Hagedorn Women Build, a home being built in Iowa City in spring of 2022. IVHFH build days with teams and groups from the University of Iowa are always exciting, but this particular build day was extraordinary as Jane Hagedorn was the former coach of the UI softball team from 1974-1980. Construction Manager Christy Shipley said, "Watching Jane guiding and teaching those young women was an honor. It truly symbolized the purpose of Women Build. We can't wait to host the team again!"
HOMEOWNER SPOTLIGHT
Helping Hands homeowner, Terri, has hope for a bright, warm, safe holiday season with her family. A year ago, Terri was living in a hotel with her son and his three children. For a month, her mobile home sat vacant in North Liberty with no electricity, heat, or plumbing as she waited for it to be moved to a new mobile home park in Iowa City. During this time, the water lines froze and burst. Further damages were sustained during the move to Iowa City. Terri struggled to pay for a hotel room the entire month, so she had no way to afford the repairs her home needed. That's when she turned to IVHFH.
SUPPORT IVHFH WITH A YEAR END DONATION
Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity is built on the foundation of bringing people together. The past 20 months have challenged our ability to come together in the same ways, but our community has overcome the challenges to continue helping families in need of safe, decent, affordable housing. Your support in the past year allowed us to help 53 households improve their homes through our Helping Hands home repair program, and 3 families build and purchase new homes in our communities. Share the joys of the holiday season! Make a year-end donation to IVHFH today!
