Brisbane Broncos Training Session

This weekend we celebrated our Project Alf winners so far by getting them all together for our Project Alf Day. As you know this event is supported by Telstra Redbank Plains who provided the winners with gift bags.

We would like to make a special mention of Robert (Bob) who has recently been diagnosed with  Perthy's disease. Please see the coaches comments below about Bob.

'Bobby Elder: Bobby is a Goodna Under 9's player who showed his team mates it's not how big you are but how big your heart is. Bobby loved playing hard and tackling anything that come at him.

Unfortunately Bobby was diagnosed this year with Perthes Disease which is disease of the hip joint that tends to affect children between the ages of three and 11 years. In Perthes' disease, the ball (femoral head) is softened and eventually damaged due to an inadequate blood supply to the bone cells. Around one in every 4,750 children is affected, with boys four times more likely to develop the disease than girls.

Most children with Perthes disease eventually recover, but it can take anywhere from two to five years for the femoral head to regenerate'

On the day Brendon Lindsay ensured that all of the Project Alf winners were looked after we received a lovely letter today about the impact that Brendon had on Bob.

"You assisted him to overcame all of these fears on Saturday and he ended up staying beyond the Jets game, and enjoyed seeing all of the kids who were all fantastic with him. This year has been a really traumatic time for our family who are coming to grips with Perthy's disease and how it has suddenly changed all of our lives.

He was devastated to know that he couldn't play footy with his mates this year but told AJ he's coming to all of the Jets games from now on"

Support Required!

We would like to invite your cycling, car or BMX club to come along to the Ipswich Jets, Christmas in July event to be held at the North Ipswich Reserve on the 25th of July.  On this day the Jets will be paying our exciting brand of rugby league and will be joining with the Ipswich Ulysses motorcycle group to invite car groups, Willowbank raceway, cycling groups and BMX groups to help us support the Salvation Army.

The Ulysses members will ride in convoy from the Redbank Plaza shopping centre to the North Ipswich Reserve where they will deliver much needed non-perishable tinned food, clothing and bedding for the Salvation Army's Red Shield winter appeal.  We are hoping to have over 100 motorcycles as part of this winter bike run and would love to fill the far side of the field with cars and bikes for the public to admire.

We would ask that your group be available for the day and we would welcome those coming along in to the corporate centre for VIP viewing of the game and free access to the North Ipswich Reserve.

We would love if you could pass on this flyer to your members and social media channels and if possible let us know If you are interested in attending so we can reserve your spot. We are also happy for you to have a stall on the day which would allow you to promote your group to the public.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Youth Detention Centre Visit

On Tuesday Brendon Lindsay, Wes Conlon and Carlin Anderson attended a coaching session with a number of young people between the ages of 12-17 at the Youth Detention Centre.  The day was a great success with some positive feedback received from the centre.

'Our boys really appreciate the opportunity to experience some sort of "normality" with a footy session' said a staff member, 'as we discussed we are using footy as a reward for good behaviour and are seeing some positive improvements in attitudes and behaviours in our most at risk boys.'

The Jets are looking forward to  re-visiting the centre again.

CEO REPORT

The Jets are continuing to reach new heights this season.  Over the weekend the ISC, BRL and Colt's sides all recorded victories, something which until this season was a very rare event.  In the ISC game the boys took on the visiting CQ Capras from Rockhampton, and in front of a healthy crowd the Jets scored 10 tries.  Right from the start of the match the Jets showed that they were there to put on a show for our loyal supporters after not having played at home for a few weeks.  Carlin Anderson scored three tries and Nemani Valekapa, Dane Phillips and Kurt Capewell all scored doubles.  The final score of 52 - 6 will really improve our for and against which could prove to be very handy at the back end of the season with everyone so close.

The BRL side played Easts on Sunday and also came away with a hard fought 24 - 22 result which from all reports could have gone the other way right at the end.  Nevertheless the Jets boys stuck to their guns and remain on top of the BRL ladder.  The Jets Colts boys took on the higher placed Sunshine Coast Falcons and were expecting a tough encounter, however they showed what they are capable of and finished 32 - 12 winners to remain in equal fifth position.

During the half time break of the ISC game last Saturday Steven Johnson presented Men of League with a $100 cheque to go towards the great work they do.  Frank Barrett (CEO of Men of League) accepted the cheque and told the crowd that every little bit helps.  The Men of League charity aims to support anyone who has been associated with rugby league.  The Jets wish Frank and his organisation well and will continue to support them in the future.

The ISC side will travel to Cairns this weekend to take on the Northern Pride who have struggled this year, and while we don't have a very good record in Cairns I know that the boys will be doing everything they can to change this.  The BRL side will play Wests Panthers on Saturday while the Colts will travel to Redcliffe to play the Dolphins on Sunday.

Many of you would also be aware of the terrible tragedy which occurred in the ISC Norths Devils v Sunshine Coast Falcons game on Saturday.  Our club has offered condolences to the player, his family and the teams involved.  To follow-up we will also discuss the issue with our team chaplain and have offered professional support should any of the players feel it necessary.  We all know the game is tough but to lose a young life in this fashion is devastating for all.

After our game on Saturday evening we held our annual Sportsman's Dinner which proved to be very successful.  Bryan Fletcher from the FOX Sports NRL show entertained the crowd with some wicked jokes and stories about his exploits.  He was ably assisted by all three Walker brothers who gratefully gave up their time to support the club after a very long day.

Finally many of you would also be aware that Marmin Barba mysteriously collapsed on the field on Saturday during the second half.  I can report that Marmin is doing well after a couple of days in hospital and will suffer no ill effects.

I have included the points table for each grade below and they make very interesting reading at this stage of the season.

Cheers

Wayne

Intrust Super Cup Report

Coming off a loss to the PNG Hunters two weeks ago we were keen to get back to winning against the CQ Capras. We started extremely well and scored 4 tries in the first 9 minutes to be up 36-0 at half time.

It was all about playing our football and making sure we didn't deviate from that once the second half started.

Unfortunately in the second half we pushed the pass a little more than necessary and let some chances slip and just couldn't find the last pass for at least three more tries.  Landon Hayes was excellent for us again and Carlin Anderson continues to mature as a fullback and footballer. Overall our defence was great and we held them to one try.

This week we travel to Cairns to take on the Northern Pride and it will be a huge task to win up in the North, something we haven't done in a long while.

Ipswich Jets Tries Carlin Anderson 3, Nemani Valekapa 2, Dane Phillips 2, Kurt Capewell 2, Landon Hayes Goals: Carlin Anderson 6 CQ Capras Tries: Hayden Buckman Goals: Ian Webster

BRL Report

After 9 rounds the Ipswich Jets BRL side have won 8 games and are still on top of the table. We came up against Easts on Sunday who are in the top 5 also. We started well and had to hold a rampaging Easts from finishing strongly which we managed to do in one of our tightest games yet.

This week we play the Wests Panthers away from home so we will be looking at continuing our good form and making sure we stay at the top of the table. Pat McCallum was good for us again on the weekend and his time in the top grade has seen us get back a better player. Hayden Lipp is still the competition's leading point scorer and is doing a great job for us.

IPSWICH JETS 24 (Jordan Tighe, Pat McCallum, Sam Capewell, Matthew Brown, Fine Fainga tries; Haydan Lipp 2 goals) def EASTS TIGERS 22 (Brandon George 3, Joshua Everett tries; Brandon Downey 3 goals) at Tapout Energy Stadium, Langlands Park, Stones Corner.

Colts Report

The Ipswich Jets Colts side came up against a committed Sunny Coast on Saturday and put in one of our best performances of the year.  The young Falcons sit above us on the ladder so it was important that we stayed with them and eventually came away 32-12 winners.  Our attack really clicked and showed what we can do when we get it right. We only led 12-6 at half time and in the second half we went on with it and played some really good football.

Jy Mullen scored two tries and impressed again with his work ethic and enthusiasm. We are now back up to equal fifth (6th on for and against) and this week we will play the Dolphins who are second on the table and will be a big test for us.

Ipswich Jets Tries: Jy Mullen 2, Jordan Tusa 2, Shaye Lund, Dale McDonald Goals: Daniel Ioane 4 Sunshine Coast Falcons Tries: Jackson Moule, Blake Mara Goals: Dalton Harry 2
