This weekend we celebrated our Project Alf winners so far by getting them all together for our Project Alf Day. As you know this event is supported by Telstra Redbank Plains who provided the winners with gift bags.
We would like to make a special mention of Robert (Bob) who has recently been diagnosed with
Perthy's disease. Please see the coaches comments below about Bob.
'Bobby Elder: Bobby is a Goodna Under 9's player who showed his team mates it's not how big you are but how big your heart is. Bobby loved playing hard and tackling anything that come at him.
Unfortunately Bobby was diagnosed this year with Perthes Disease which is disease of the hip joint that tends to affect children between the ages of three and 11 years. In Perthes' disease, the ball (femoral head) is softened and eventually damaged due to an inadequate blood supply to the bone cells. Around one in every 4,750 children is affected, with boys four times more likely to develop the disease than girls.
Most children with Perthes disease eventually recover, but it can take anywhere from two to five years for the femoral head to regenerate'
On the day Brendon Lindsay ensured that all of the Project Alf winners were looked after we received a lovely letter today about the impact that Brendon had on Bob.
"You assisted him to overcame all of these fears on Saturday and he ended up staying beyond the Jets game, and enjoyed seeing all of the kids who were all fantastic with him. This year has been a really traumatic time for our family who are coming to grips with Perthy's disease and how it has suddenly changed all of our lives. He was devastated to know that he couldn't play footy with his mates this year but told AJ he's coming to all of the Jets games from now on" |
