E-NEWS HEADLINES
December 5, 2018
It's been 10 years since we published an article on three of Notre Dame's most revered teachers in what was then just the second edition of IRISH magazine, the Notre Dame Alumni Association's publication for graduates of Notre Dame Prep, Notre Dame High School and their heritage schools. Since then much has changed, including, sadly, the death of Hal Rice in 2013. Norm Kotarski and Ken Parent, however, well into full retirement, continue to be regular visitors to the Pontiac campus of Notre Dame.
More than 400 visitors signed in during the 2018 edition of Notre Dame's all-school fall open house. Those on campus had a chance to experience the school's pre-kindergarten through 12th grades and an academic program that includes the prestigious International Baccalaureate program.
For the second Alumni Career Speaker Series event in as many weeks and the 10th overall, more than 25 students from Notre Dame's upper division assembled in the school's media center to hear from four alumni who are working as engineers.
Notre Dame upper division math teacher Dan Staniszewski said he doesn't remember much about his first impressions of the school when he first arrived on campus. That might be because he was just a seventh grader then and a student in Notre Dame's middle division.
A number of students from Notre Dame’s upper division gathered in one of the school's new collaborative classrooms in the science, art and technology wing for the 9th edition of the Alumni Career Speaker Series, which is sponsored by the Notre Dame Alumni Association. This session focused on entrepreneurship.
When Notre Dame alum John Greene '17 matriculated at Villanova University in the fall of 2017, his academic track included a host of freshman science courses during his first year on campus, which is located just outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The thing is, though, he didn't take any of them. That's because, according to Greene, his high school, Notre Dame Prep, offered an array of amazing AP science courses taught by some amazing teachers.
We consider every young man or woman who graduates from Notre Dame a work of art. To be more precise, we actually think of our alums as masterpieces of academic scholarship, community citizenship and probably most important, Christian empathy.
Read stories about a young alum who is studying at one of the nation's top architecture schools; a 1958 grad who played pro baseball with Tommy John and Luis Tiant; and an alum who won a Pulitzer Prize for journalism. Plus a whole lot more alumni and Notre Dame goings-on!
Since opening its doors in April of last year, HomeGrown Brewing Company has enjoyed enormous success and support from the community. More than 400 people attended the spring 2017 grand opening, mug-club pre-sales sold out, and the brewery has sold over 93,000 pints to date.
