IRISH- SEATTLE PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBIT
|
|
The Irish in Washington state have always celebrated St. Patrick’s Day and their Irish heritage! For years, local Irishman Brendan Shriane has been taking photos of Irish events around Seattle and 2022 Irish Festival provides a visual portrayal of some of what the Irish community in Seattle has been doing over these past many years. Brendan’s photos have been augmented with older photos from years gone-by, from Irish celebrations long before he was born. The photo above dates from St. Patrick’s Day in Seattle in 1936.

John and Alice Cooper are back at Irish Festival Seattle with their exhibition of thousands of antique Irish postcards, plus 48 original reproductions of Bartlett’s Views of Ireland dating from the 1840s, just a few years before the Great Potato Famine. The Coopers’ collection provides an interesting glimpse into the social history, cultural history and material culture of Ireland, especially in the late 1800s and early 1900s, the "Golden Age of Postcards".

Seafair Pirates “MOBY DUCK”
Outside the Armory, SUNDAY, ~2:30 pm
Starting her life as a 1944 vintage amphibious landing craft, “The Moby Duck” came to the Seafair Pirates in 1954. Adorned with a writhing Chinese dragon, the now world-famous Moby Duck made her debut in that year’s Seafair celebrations, and the Seafair Pirates have maintained and operated the Duck at their expense ever since. See the Moby Duck up close outside the Armory on Saturday following the St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

Irish Week 2022 is sponsored by Five Farms Irish Cream.
Five Farms is the world’s first farm-to-table Irish Cream Liqueur, exclusively sourced and produced in County Cork, Ireland. County Cork is Ireland’s largest and southernmost county, home to family-owned farms that dot the coastline where the land meets the sea. It seems to sit on the edge of the world, a rugged backdrop for the farmers who have toiled this land for generations.
