Words from Weisner

Please remember that Progress Reports were sent electronically to all parents on Friday, November 1. In addition, Sign-Up Genius is now open (on-line) for parents to sign up for conferences if they choose. We are asking that parents with students in Grades 5 – 8 bring their child with them to the conference. By this age/ grade level, it is important that the student continues to be involved in goal setting moving into the Second Quarter.

Thanks for all our parents who attended the Home and School “Night at the Races”! Home and School helps to support many student activities at the school so we appreciate all their hard work and effort in organizing such events!

Next week, we will hold a Book Fair in the library. Parents and students can visit on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 3:00 – 5:30.

In the recently published book, How to Raise a Reader, the authors Paul and Russo reflect on to raise a reader in an environment that is weighted toward technology.  Life is busy for everyone, but it is also important to take some time in this business to create a culture that encourages reading.  One important point that they make is “it’s important to remember that your job as a parent is not to teach your child to read. It’s to teach your child to love to read……as a family, you can create a culture of reading. Fill your house with books. If it sounds like that’s all about money, it’s not. There are used books, borrowed books, library books.”

Until next week,
Janet Weisner

Playground Update
We are happy to announce that we raised just under $195,000 for the new playground!! As a result of the generous support from school parents, parishioners, neighbors in the community, and local businesses and community foundations, we did not have to cut any equipment from the original plans. As required by the Diocese, we requested and received approval from Bishop Brennan last week for the Playground Project. The equipment has now been ordered and should arrive in early December. We are now awaiting permit approval from the City of Columbus for the required drainage for the project. Once this approval is granted and Mother Nature cooperates, you should see some action on the field adjacent to the power house and garage where the new playground will be relocated. Stay tuned for more updates as we receive more information.
