Irish Insider

January 15,2020

This Thursday is the last day of the Second Quarter. Teachers will be in the building on Friday to work on their grades. Progress Reports will be electronically sent out to parents on Friday, January 24. As always, parents should use their password to log into the SchoolSpeak portal to access the Progress Reports.

As we begin Third Quarter ( hard to believe!), students in grades 2 – 8 will be involved in Student-Led Conferences in February. These conferences provide time for parents and their child/ children to share their work, demonstrate some of their academic skills, and set student learning goals for the remainder of this academic year. Demonstrating goal setting is also part of our Academic goal in our accreditation process. While more information will be sent latter, the dates for these Student-Led Conferences are;

               Tuesday, February 4      Grades 6-7-8
               Tuesday, February 11    Grades 4-5
Tuesday, February 25    Grades 2-3 (Note change of date from date posted on school calendar)

Today starts the beginning of morning prayers that are dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. These special prayers will be recited every morning until Wednesday, January 29. The teachers have resources that they will use in their classrooms to discuss keeping Jesus first and foremost in their lives. Jesus told St. Margaret Mary that He would bless each place where a picture of His Sacred Heart is honored. We will place a picture (Enthronement) during a special blessing during Catholic Schools Week. As we work this year on virtues, this becomes another form of prayer in the lives of our students and a protection for our students who work in our school each day.

We are completing preparation for our week’s celebration of Catholic Schools Week (January 26 – 31). Information about different activities to celebrate will be sent home to all families next week.

Until Next Week,

Janet Weisner

CAP - Creative Activities Program
Creative Activities Program (CAP) is in need of volunteers to help lead clubs for the winter sessions.

Clubs are open to grades 1-8 and one day a week after school from approximately 3:00 to 4:00 . The winter session dates are from Jan. 27 to Mar. 6.

Please consider giving an hour per week on the day of your choice to lead a club. This would be a great way to earn volunteer hours and can be anything from Legos to gardening to science club. I am happy to help with any ideas and materials to get your club started. We also will reimburse you for all materials used.

Our students really enjoy participating in after school clubs but it is essential for parent involvement to keep these clubs going.

Please contact Jasmine Williams at by Jan. 17th if you are interested.

Potential ideas:
Archery, Board games, Dodgeball, Lego (CAP has a large collection of Legos for use), Puzzles, Rocket Building/STEM, Sewing

Preschool News
The Busy Bees have been doing Buddy Work to start off the year 2020. The kids worked with a friend on a creative writing page. Together the class read a book about a gingerbread baby who needed a friend. Afterwards in pairs the kids thought up a friend for gingerbread baby and drew a picture of it. Working together provides an opportunity for learning how to express their own ideas and listen to the ideas of others to negotiate one piece of work. The Busy Bees worked very nicely together.
