Thoughts with Mr. Watts
"Let your eyes look directly forward, and your gaze be straight before you. Ponder the path of your feet; then all your ways will be sure." - Proverbs 4:25-26
St. Catharine Families:

As we wind down the end of the year, it is important to reflect on how far we have come as a school community. There have been obstacles to overcome and barriers to break through. Some of the challenges may have seemed overwhelming, yet adversity allows us to let God give His grace and reveals who we are as brothers and sisters in Christ.

There are so many positive aspects we are looking forward to next year that we are excited to plan for and share. We must not lose sight of the blessings we have these last few weeks.

Our goal is to use the remaining school year as a way to continue developing our students academically, socially, and spiritually while keeping our eyes on the tremendous possibilities we have at St. Catharine School next year.

Know you are always in my prayers.

In Christ,

Mark Watts
"Count it all joy, my brothers and sisters, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing." - James 1:2-4

All nominees must be parents of children attending St. Catharine School and/or members of the Parish.

If interested, please fill out this form including a short paragraph about yourself by Friday, May 14

Legislative Action Network Update

“All who have meditated on the art of governing mankind have been convinced that the fate of empires depends on the education of youth.” – Aristotle, Greek philosopher

Thank you so much for your letters to Representative Dontavius Jarrells in regards to HB 110! Last week parents from across the diocese provided both in-person and written testimony for the Senate Primary and Secondary Education Committee hearings on the budget, including parents from St. Catharine! Thank you for using your voice to help us have a strong showing in these budget proceedings, especially to emphasize how important both the Ed Choice and Jon Peterson scholarships are to our Catholic school parents.

Below are amendments from the Catholic Conference for which we are asking support:
  • Increase maximum scholarship amounts to $5,500 (from $4,650) for grades K-8 and $8,000 (from $6,000) for grades 9-12 for students in the performance-based Ed Choice Scholarship, Ed Choice Expansion, and Cleveland Scholarship Program
  • Support the provision in the Executive Budget for Catholic Schools to have the option of receiving direct Auxiliary Services payments
  • Permit Administrative Cost Reimbursement (ACR) to be up to $475 per student, notwithstanding the statutory cap of $360 per student
  • Increase the payment in lieu of transportation from $250 to the state average to transport students
  • Support the additional provisions in the executive budget for school transportation

Special People in Catholic Education (SPICE) is a program to support the education of children with special needs in our parish and school.

SPICE supports the teachers and staff at St. Catharine in their philosophy that every child is special. Our parish and school are committed to serving all of our children.

SPICE served as a means to raise funds, to employ needed personnel, and to support the educational process in whatever area deemed necessary by our pastor or principal.
