ACADEMIC AFFAIRS NEWS: MIDTERM EXAMS

Students should begin preparation for Midterm examinations after the New Year. Some students and families begin preparation over the Christmas break. These assessments count for twenty percent of the semester grade, and should be approached seriously.  The Midterm examination schedule is as follows:
Jan 21: Religion and Science
Jan 22: English and Social Studies
Jan 23: Math and Language

Each day we will follow a similar schedule. Students should arrive by 8:11 as usual and report to the first exam room. The first exam will start at 8:25. The second exam will start at 10:05. Dismissal will be at 11:30. Students who have already qualified for extended time accommodations will receive separate instructions on January 2, 2020.

Students should make every effort to be in school each day for Midterms. Only an absolute, documented, emergency should keep a student from taking the exam on the scheduled day. These are outlined in the Student Handbook, and exclude travel plans. Parents should call the attendance office by 8:00 AM any day an emergency prevents a student from taking the exam.  Make-up exams will be given on January 24, 2020.
SENIORS: CLASS PICTURE ON MONDAY
We will take the senior class picture during Activity Period on 1/7/20. This is the only time that this picture will be taken so please make every effort to be in school that day and you must be in full school uniform to be in the photograph.  If you have any questions, please email  lindsey.murphy@camdencatholic.org
FROM THE NURSE'S OFFICE

This is a reminder that all Juniors need a physical.  If your child had a recent physical (less than one year), he/she doesn't need a new one.  Please have a physical form completed by your doctor based on that physical exam.  If your child hasn't had a recent physical, please call your doctor to schedule an appointment.

Although the form says "athletic" physical form, this is the same form that is used whether or not a student plays a sport.  Physical forms are available in the Nurse's Office and can be found on the school website under "Quick Links" then "Nurse's Office."  Completed forms should be returned as soon as possible.
FROM THE CAMPUS MINISTRY OFFICE
Congratulations to our generous and giving student body! 94% of our students completed their Semester 1 Christian Service requirement on time! As a reminder, all students are able to find the most recent service opportunities and a list of organizations in need on their Christian Service class page. Please take advantage of the resources provided and help someone in need.

January is Poverty Awareness Month and Campus Ministry will be collecting new socks, gently used gloves/mittens, small size toiletries, soap, wash clothes, travel sized snacks, small packs of tissues. All donations will be used for service projects on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and during Catholic Schools Week.

Attendance Reminders
This is a reminder of the importance of students being in school each day. The NJ Dept. of Education requires a school to be in session for 180 days each school year. If a student is absent more than 10% of the days school is in session they are considered excessively absent and risk being awarded course credit.   A total of 10 days absent may cause a student to be ineligible to participate in school sponsored activities or events. The attendance policy can be found on pages 20- 24 in the student handbook.

Early Dismissals
The attendance policy limits requests for early dismissals to five per school year. All legal, medical, etc. appointments should be made for after school hours, when possible. It is critical that when a situation necessitates an early dismissal that a note, stating the reason for the dismissal and signed by a parent, is submitted to the Student Affairs Office prior to 8:15am. The time of the dismissal should be included in the note. Parents should report to the main office to pick up the student for an early dismissal. Parents will be asked to complete a form and show identification for security reasons.

A students is recorded as absent for a full day if he/she misses more than 4 class periods. A student will be recorded as absent for ½ day if he/she misses 4 or less class periods.
