ACTION ALERT

ISSUE:   Governor Murphy will deliver his Budget Message to the Legislature on March 5, 2019. We are asking for level funding in the Fiscal Year 2020 Budget in order to retain the current level of funds, including the $1,000 per-pupil funding for nonpublic school transportation. We would also like the to secure the $150.00 per pupil for nonpublic school security which was provided in P.L. 2018, c.168, which was signed by Governor Murphy on January 8, 2019.

OUR  POSITION:   Both the New Jersey Catholic Conference and the New Jersey Network of Catholic School Families fully support this request in Governor Murphy's Budget.
 
ACTION: Call, write, or email Governor Murphy's office at the following and ask for retention of all nonpublic school funds from Fiscal Year 2019 in the Fiscal Year 2020 Budget. The contact information is as follows:

J-TERM 2019 Celebrates Passions & Explores New Interests
Last week our students enjoyed three days exploring "out-of-the-box" classroom activities, interests and topics with faculty members, guest speakers and CCHS alumni. SOPHOMORE WINS FILM AWARD
Congratulations to Sophomore Isaac Chang who won the SkyPixel "this week's most popular film" video contest 2018.  His film titled "Happy New Year" - documented his travels over the Christmas break.  This film was submitted as a project in his Digital Film Production but has won him notable acclaim in the film community.

Upcoming Service Opportunities 
The Knights of Columbus Council is looking for volunteers to help with their Intellectual Disability Drive April 25th to April 28th. The collection is at the Westmont and Audubon ACME. Help is needed in two hour shifts from 9:00am to 9:00pm. Please call or email JJ Buttil of the Knights of Columbus at johnbuttil1952@netzero.com or 856-547-7096. This is a great opportunity if you need more hours prior to the 2nd semester turn in date.
 
The St. Vincent De Paul society of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in Somerdale NJ holds a food drive one Saturday a month. If you live in the area and are interested please contact Ms. Ann Clinton for the parish point of contact to help with this important work of mercy.

PAWS Discovery Farm Egg Hunt- PAWS Discovery Farm is looking for volunteers to help with the Egg Hunt April 6-7th, 13-14th and 20th from 10:30am-4:30pm. They are looking for 8-10 volunteers each day. See Ms. Clinton for point of contact information if interested.

KAIROS VI Retreat
Our Spring KAIROS VI retreat will be held March 28-31st at the Diocese of Camden Kairos retreat house on the property of Holy Spirit High School in Absecon NJ. Students will be leaving CCHS at 2:00pm on March 28th.

Junior Class Prom
The Junior Prom will be held at the Adventure Aquarium on Thursday, April 11, 2019 from 7:00pm to 11:00pm. Juniors are required to be in school the day of prom for a safety presentation by Cherry Hill emergency responders. Students can expect an early dismissal after 3rd period on the day of prom. No appointments should be made prior to 11:30am. Any junior who has not already attended a retreat during the school year will be required to All School Retreat on April 12th and attendance is the regular time of 8:15am.
 
Tickets are $65 per person purchased prior to March 25th and then tickets go up to $75 per person on March 26-April 5th.
 
Mr. Henderson the junior moderator distributed prom information on Tuesday, March 12th to the junior class.
 
Dress Code Guidance: The prom is a formal event and formal attire which is appropriate for a Catholic school is required. Gentlemen are to be dressed in tuxedo/suit and have dress shoes. Ladies are to dress in formal attire. Avoid excess- excessively high slits, plunging necklines and/or fabric cut outs.

RETREATS 
The iRace4Vocation can serve as a retreat for a student who has not yet completed a retreat. iRace4Vocation is on March 31st at Washington Lake Park in Washington Township NJ and starts at 1200 noon. Students who want to participate will have to provide their own transportation. The day includes an open air mass with Bishop Sullivan, a 5K run or 1 mile walk and a lunch. The event is free but a participant is asked to get prayer pledges for the cause of Vocations that will be turned in at the registration table on the day of the event. There are also some volunteer opportunities at the event as well. Participants must pre register at https://camdenpriest.org/irace4vocations/ Students should see Ms. Clinton if interested. A short written reflection will be required to count as a retreat.

The All School Retreat is on April 12th and is mandatory for any student that has not completed a retreat so far this school year. It is a regular school day for those attending, students will report to homeroom at 8:11am, busing to and from school is provided, and there is food service in the dining hall. We are excited to have the Franciscan Sisters of the Renewal from Atlantic City leading the retreat that day. Students may dress down following the dress down guides in the Student Handbook.
 
SOPHOMORES CLASS OF 2021: Class Ring Orders
A representative from Herff Jones, our vendor for school rings will be at CCHS to take orders and measurements during lunch periods on Tuesday and Wednesday, March 26th and 27th and also Tuesday evening, March 26th from 5:00-7:00pm in the Dining Hall. (For the evening sessions, students with last names A-L should come 5:00-6:15pm and last names M-Z should come from 6:15-7:00pm)
SENIORS: PHOTOS NEEDED
The senior class is currently collecting photos for this year's slide show and they welcome your submissions.  We request that all submitted photos be from your four years at Camden Catholic and that all photos be school appropriate.  We also request that you limit your submission to a total of five photos.  Please send photos via email to  cchs19photos@gmail.com  by Friday, April 19, 2019.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS SCHOLARSHIP  
The Knights of Columbus St. Jude Council #6551 (St. Andrew the Apostle, Gibbsboro, NJ) is accepting submissions for the Mignogna Family Memorial Scholarship, a tuition scholarship of $1,000to a student who, as of this coming fall of 2019, will attend either (a) a Catholic high school, or (b) a Catholic college as a freshman.Candidates must submit an essay (up to 500 words) on any topic (e.g., the person you admire most, the person who has had a significant impact on your life, what steps you need to take to achieve your dream job, how you are attempting to become independent, how you would improve our Church or community, an event that has had a major impact on your life).
