Research at ASMS: Teaching Students to be Scholars
Dear ASMS Community,

This year, ASMS is taking student research to a new level with our multi-course, interdisciplinary Research Fellows Program, designed to foster and facilitate the research process with our students. ASMS students will conduct a level of research often not undertaken until college. This program will set them apart in the university application and admissions process.

The ASMS Research Fellows Program draws from the expertise of campus faculty and off-site scholars to guide ASMS students through an immersive research experience. This fall, we already have 28 research projects ready for implementation.

“I’m so excited to connect our students to these amazing research opportunities and look forward to seeing all the cool stuff we get to nerd out on!” said Sarah Brewer, Research Coordinator and avowed nerd.

The application for projects beginning this fall is due August 24. The Fellows handbook, application and list of offerings can be found at https://www.asms.net/academics/research.

You can view the full list of participants here.
Thank you to the program’s namesake, ASMS School Board member, & Chief of Staff to the Governor — Jo Bonner (pictured) — for spending time with our students at the retreat and serving as the keynote speaker!

Anatomy and Physiology

Anatomy and Physiology worked on an assignment called "No Guts No Glory" with their lab groups today and had to label and draw >30 body components and place in correct anatomical position without the use of their notes, book, or other reference materials. They took a snapshot once they were finished and as we move through the units we can reference this initial picture to see how much they learned!
Shout out!

Mason Bayles was a delegate at the Eighty-Fourth American Legion Alabama Boys State this past summer! During his time at Boys State, he was part of the State Board of Education where he worked to create solutions as well as new policies. His parents are McKenzie and Wesley.
