City of Irvine Ends Great Park Amphitheater Partnership with Live Nation

The Irvine City Council has ended negotiations with Live Nation for the Great Park amphitheater. City Manager Oliver Chi has been asked to come back to council within 90 days with a new process and timeline to replace the temporary FivePoint amphitheater that will have up to 10,000 seats and an in-house speaker system with no residential noise impacts.

National Endowment for the Arts Creates Disabilities Toolkit

The National Endowment for the Arts has developed a toolkit for people with disabilities seeking careers in the arts. Designed for performers, visual artists, teaching artists, cultural workers, administrators and more, the toolkit will help disabled artists access career opportunities.

New Leadership

Casa Romantica Cultural Center and Gardens has announced the appointment of Kylie Travis as the Executive Director of Operations and Programming and Jacqui Groseth as the Executive Director of Resource Development and Administration. This leadership team will guide Casa Romantica during the transition period following the departure of Amy Behrens, Executive Director, who held the executive role and a senior leadership role at Casa Romantica for seven and a half years.

Katherine Yang has been named Vice President of Education & Community Engagement by the Philharmonic Society of Orange County. With a background and formal education in music performance and arts administration, Katherine Yang has worked professionally in the music field for nearly a decade both for New York and Southern California performing arts institutions.

Dominic Mumolo has been named Senior Director of Development for the College of the Arts at California State University, Fullerton. He had most recently been Director of Philanthropy at Providence Mission Hospital Foundation. Dominic's other philanthropic efforts have been with such institutions as Laguna College of Art and Design, Orange County Museum of Art and Pacific Chorale.

South Coast Repertory Teaching Artist

Diana Burbano Receives Prestigious Playwriting Honor

South Coast Repertory Conservatory Teaching Artist Diana Burbano earned a coveted spot as a finalist for the Eugene O’Neill National Playwrights Conference with her play “Beheading Columbus.” Out of more than 1,200 submissions to the NPC, only 5% made it to the final round. From there, a select number will move on to development in the month-long conference.

In Memoriam

Dick Schweickert, who served on the Arts Orange County Board and was its Board President from 2000-2003, has passed away at age 84. Dick also served as Board President of Laguna Playhouse, and was on the Board of Counselors of Pacific Symphony in addition to being a supporter of South Coast Repertory.

Local Groups on Tour

Both Pacific Chorale and the All-American Boys Chorus have been on separate European tours. In fact, each group performed at Salzburg Cathedral in Austria just nine days apart.
