Is Cohousing Right for You?
|
|
One of the best ways to find out if cohousing is
right for you is to attend a regional cohousing conference. There, gathered in one place, you will find hundreds of people who also are exploring the world of community, bringing their questions and expertise with them. Workshops exploring living in cohousing abound, from
"
How to Create Affordable Options in Cohousing" to "Creating Community Space for Kids" and "Aging in Multigenerational Cohousing Communities". On Sunday, you can top off the weekend with tours to local communities to see cohousing life in action.
This Spring, the Regional CoHousing Conference, sponsored by Cohousing.org, is happening in Boulder, Colorado, April 20-22. Get schedule and ticket information

Meet our Development Consultant – Katie McCamant
|
|
We are proud of our wonderful Development Consultant, Kathryn McCamant, of CoHousing Solutions. She brings the depth and diversity of her experience as an architect, developer, and cohousing resident to her clients. She has provided guidance and a wealth of information to help us create Fair Oaks EcoHousing. She, along with architect Charles Durrett, pioneered the development of cohousing in North America, and she has helped create dozens of successful, award-winning communities. Kathryn and Charles wrote the book that introduced cohousing to North America, updated now as
Creating Cohousing: Building Sustainable Communities. Her newest venture involves training passionate cohousing entrepreneurs through the year-long 500 Communities Program.
She has helped us navigate numerous obstacles as we journeyed from an idea to a project under construction. Founder Marty Maskall says: “I can’t imagine trying to develop cohousing without Katie’s wisdom. I’m sure it would have taken much longer, and we might not have succeeded at all.”
Kathryn walks the talk, and has lived in cohousing for most of the past twenty-five years. She developed
Nevada City Cohousing in 2006 and has called that community home ever since. She believes that we need more sustainable communities with strong social connections, and she has dedicated her life to making that happen. We are profoundly grateful for her expert guidance. Learn more at

Get to Know Our New Members
Bob and Karen Anderson
|
|
Karen Anderson earned a doctorate in English at UC Davis. She taught literature and composition courses there for many years and loved helping students gain confidence in their voices as writers. She has also worked as a writer, editor, and researcher in the field of English language arts education.
About 10 years ago, Karen discovered Etsy, and was inspired to explore a long dormant attraction to crafting. She has a small Etsy shop mostly devoted to handmade jewelry with occasional needle felted pieces--most commonly octopi. She hopes to find some fellow crafters in the cohousing community.
Bob Anderson was born and raised in San Francisco and studied literature and philosophy at San Francisco State University. He got his Master's degree at UC Davis and taught writing there for 13 years, before being hired by the California Department of Education to work in the areas of Standards, Curriculum, and Assessment. He retired in 2010. He has an ongoing interest in singing and playing guitar, and has two albums on ITunes. He looks forward to singing together with others in our cohousing community.
Karen and Bob are strong believers in the value of Waldorf education. Their two children, Nicholas and Catherine, attended Waldorf schools from kindergarten through 12th grade, first in Davis, and later in Fair Oaks. Karen and Bob both served on the board of the Davis Waldorf School and Bob later served on the board of Rudolf Steiner College, a Waldorf teacher training institute in Fair Oaks.
