FDA Discussion on CBD Continues, Despite Gottlieb Resignation

Gottlieb suggests passage of legislation, not regulation, is the faster pathway for legal sales of CBD.

FDA Uses Budget to as a Vehicle for Congressional Action

Despite the fact Gottlieb is leaving FDA and Ned Sharpless of the National Cancer Institute is taking his place. the FDA remains committed to moving its agenda for dietary supplements forward, relying on the legislative branch and budget process accomplish its objectives. CBD legislation vs. regulation makes sense from the Agency's perspective. It's a carrot for the marketplace and the farmers anxious to eliminate barriers to market. Carrots are often paired with sticks. In this case, the President's budget includes a requirement to 'list' new ingredients, and create a process to evaluate safety of new ingredients. Congressional action is required, and thus, our diligence necessary as Congress moves forward in the upcoming months.
