With many fall festivals canceled, some attractions across the country shut down, and a looming election, you may not be feeling like your full PSL-sipping, oversized sweater-wearing self this season. Plus, COVID-19 will no doubt make this autumn unlike any other leaf-peeping time of the past. However, there are still plenty of activities that you can do with your sober friends that are safe, fun, and affordable

Is Marijuana Addictive?

Marijuana use can lead to the development of problem use, known as a marijuana use disorder, which takes the form of addiction in severe cases. Recent data suggest that 30% of those who use marijuana may have some degree of marijuana use disorder. People who begin using marijuana before the age of 18 are four to seven times more likely to develop a marijuana use disorder than adults.

The remaining days of 2020 will be difficult and contentious: a raging pandemic, economic aftershocks, social justice protests, and yet unseen global crises—all hyper-illuminated by the inflammatory rhetoric of political campaigns. What is the call to service for recovery advocates in such turbulent times? Yes, we should keep our eyes on the prize: easing the suffering of people affected by addiction, widening pathways of personal and family recovery, strengthening recovery support institutions, and advocating for pro-recovery social policies—as we always do.

Springs Recovery Connection Peer Coaches Chassity Lemuel, Laura Indermuehle and Dominique Knowles are all Certified Peer and Family Specialists in the State of Colorado. They have completed 500 hours of work experience with peers, 30 hours of coach training and 25 hours of supervision. We are delighted to celebrate this milestone with them! Congratulations!
