"Is Social Distancing Something New?"
"Leaving us with Nothing to Do?"
The Corona pandemic has been a quick and unexpected game changer for American society and life as we know it. With restaurants shuttered, sports events canceled, all assemblies banned, all non-essential businesses closed, and in-house incarcerations. Our new lifestyle has been labeled Social- Distancing, enacted to minimize social contact. Though, a closer look will reveal that the genesis of Social-Distancing began with the tech age, when cell phones and computers trumped personal interaction and actual face- to- face conversations. Over the years and generations technology social interactions have been reduced to texts, tweets, Skype, and emails that minimized and to a degree compromised the art of conversation while alienating humanity from itself. Well, every cloud has a silver lining-and just maybe- after a few weeks of our incarcerated lives we will once again begin to appreciate human social intercourse, and will look forward to a real live conversation.
The Demitasse Players have also been impacted by these draconian measures that have resulted in the cancelling of our plays, musical performances, and shooting of movies. To overcome our boredom the Demitasse Band went into the studio to record my most recent new song, “Nothing to Do,” to ease our boredom and to create a song most appropriate to our times to share with you.
