Is Supervision Part of Your Own Coach Development?
Coaching is unlocking people’s potential to maximize their own performance.
It is more often helping them to learn rather than teaching them.
~ John Whitmore
As we develop as coaches, we sometimes forget how important supervision is to our growth and development. The Global IOC’s model for supervision is unique as it focuses on business coaching supervision. What are the benefits of supervision?
Creating space and time for reflection allowing the coach to examine his/her coaching practice. David Clutterbuck shares seven opportunities for reflection while coaching along with an eighth opportunity for using a supervising coach as a sounding board. This sounding board supervisor can offer an objective and independent perspective in the form of a thinking partnership through which useful ideas, tips, tools, and models are shared. In addition, a supervising coach can guide the further development of coaching skills and behaviors by providing follow-up conversations that allow for emergent conversations that further the development of coaching practice.
Global IOC’s February webinar will focus on Coaching Supervision for the Business Coach. It will provide attendees with an overview of coaching supervision that aligns with the most recent research on coaching practice. It will also feature a demonstration, so mark your calendars for February 23rd at 11 AM EST.
