CUNY is the undisputed New York leader in elevating Latino students, according to a new report by Excelencia in Education. With 16 colleges that are Hispanic Serving Institutions, CUNY schools are enriching our city and state and strengthening the fabric of our society. CUNY is playing offense in the fight against the pandemic, building partnerships and fortifying successful support programs to ensure that current and future students keep moving forward, writes Chancellor Matos Rodríguez. A $9.5 million gift will support the work of the Grad Center’s James M. and Cathleen D. Stone Center on Socio-Economic Inequality, an international leader in producing and promoting data-driven research to address economic and social inequality. Looking to graduate this semester? Ghazal Khaqan, Brooklyn ’20 SPH ’22, was uncertain where her biology major would lead her until an internship at the NYC Department of Health, where she found a passion for helping people in the public health space. Now a student food navigator with Swipe Out Hunger, Ghazal helps fellow CUNY students connect with food resources. She hopes to use technology to create accessibility in healthcare.
