SEEDS... November 13, 2019

What ARE those chairs still doing on the front lawn? Well for one thing, they are very heavy and difficult to move, but the main reason is that they epitomize Christ Trinity's continuing to shine light and spread kindness . This happened over and over during the warmer weather at The Chairs! Then last week, because of the presence of the front lawn rainbow Adirondack chairs and what they represent, we have an LGBT group meeting regularly in our Parish Hall. Read more below.
Where Your Heart Is
Put Your Money Where Your Heart Is!

This Sunday, November 17, 2019 Christ Trinity will hold an event where you, the parishioners, choose where you would like our yearly, budgeted Mission resources to go! We will have sixteen baskets, each with a designee and description of its outreach. We will distribute to you “fake” money which you will use to support the missions in which you are interested.

This will be accompanied by a Super Coffee Hour, during which the results are tabulated and then revealed and celebrated. This event is part of our Stewardship Team’s endeavors to bring more sharply into focus the gift of intentional giving. It is our hope that by seeing to whom our outreach goes and participating in the decision-making, congregants will feel more attuned in their giving. Please join us!
Shining our Light
By now you have received in the mail our 2020 Stewardship Appeal, called "Shining our Light." Please carefully reflect upon the gifts you have received from God, and prayerfully over the next week, form your intention for giving to Christ Trinity Church in the coming year. We hope you will not only pledge but consider increasing your giving so that, as Pastor Erik said, we can  "continue to shine light and spread kindness both near and far into a world that is in short supply of both."

Bring your annual pledge to our Ingathering service on November 24, where it will be collected with the offering. Join us after the 10 o'clock service for a celebratory luncheon featuring Joe’s famous lasagna and a time to celebrate and reflect on all we have done together this past year with the gifts we share at Christ Trinity.  All are invited!
Should I join?

Women's Bible Study
Jezebel and Delilah
The November meeting of Womens Bible study will be on Friday, November 15 th at 1:00 at the home of Liz Wells. We will discuss two notorious women, Delilah and Jezebel. Delilah’s story is in Judges 16, and Jezebel is in 1 Kings 16:31, 18:4,13, 19, 19:1-2,1 Kings 21 and 2 Kings 9. This is a lot of material, so it would be helpful to read these passages prior to the meeting. Let Imelda or Liz know if you are planning on coming.
An Open Welcome

Jubilee 2020
At the Synod Assembly in June we learned of Jubilee 2020 . . .a fund to help pastors pay for their debt from seminary. Prior to 1990 and after 2018 seminary was free or very minimally costly. Between 1990 and 2018 seminarians had to pay their own way, many borrowing to pay for their call to serve the church and the Lord. Today that loan debt is 1.75 million dollars, with the average about 40K per pastor or deacon.

Pastor Heidi Johnston from Faith Lutheran in Quincy MA told her story of faith and need. She has $94,588 in student loans. This has had great negative impact on her family and her health. Her husband works in jobs for which he is not happy so that he is able to be with her in her passion for the ministry. They have two small children. They cannot buy a house because of this debt. She, like many others, gave up a good income to go to school to become a pastor.

We are asking the congregation to make a commitment to support the Jubilee 2020 fund of the New England Synod ELCA.  Watch Pastor Johnston's moving testimony.
