Skilled trades employers: You are missing out on an untapped labour source
In Ontario less than 10% of workers in the skilled trades are women, yet women make up 46% of the general labour force.
By 2020, the federal government has stated that 319,000 new jobs will be required in the construction sector alone. This shows the need for more skilled workers, and women will help to fill the need.
WPH and the YWCA Hamilton want employers to be ahead of the curve and created the Advancing Women in Trades site to aid employers in supporting female skilled trades workers.
You can visit the website for free templates and resources. These tools support and encourage employers to create a positive workplace for all.
The website includes tools such as equal opportunity statements, job ad checklists, standard interview questions, resources for evaluating your workplace, harassment protocols and forms, and more!
