BCC Therapy Groups
This fall, the Brandeis Counseling Center (BCC) is offering therapy groups that meet virtually for 45 minutes at a regular time each week. Each therapy group has a different focus, so students can sign up for a therapy group that would most interest and benefit them. Group therapy offers the chance to speak with and learn from a trained therapist as well as compassionate peers. Fall 2021 offerings include groups on:

  • Bereavement
  • Grad support group
  • Heller "Walk the Talk"
  • Surviving isolation and quarantine
  • International student support

Cold, Flu, or COVID-19?
The common cold, influenza (flu), and COVID-19 are all contagious respiratory illnesses, but they are caused by different viruses.
Flus and Colds:

Flu symptoms usually come on quickly (within three to six hours) and consist of a fever, body aches, dry cough and extreme tiredness.

Cold symptoms are less severe and typically produce a stuffy nose, productive cough, slight tiredness and limited body aches.

Flus and COVID-19:

Both COVID-19 and flu can have varying degrees of signs and symptoms, ranging from no symptoms (asymptomatic) to severe symptoms.

Common symptoms that COVID-19 and flu share include:
  • Fever or feeling feverish/chills
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Fatigue (tiredness)
  • Sore throat
  • Runny or stuffy nose
  • Muscle pain or body aches
  • Headache
  • Some people may have vomiting and diarrhea, though this is more common in children than adults
Other signs and symptoms of COVID-19, different from flu, may include change in or loss of taste or smell.

Because some of the symptoms of flu and COVID-19 are similar, it may be hard to tell the difference between them based on symptoms alone, and testing may be needed to help confirm a diagnosis.

Practice Good Handwashing
The school year has officially started, and things on campus are almost back to normal and at full capacity. However, it is important to remain diligent. This involves making sure we are following COVID-19-safe protocols and keeping up with our personal hygiene.

October 15 is Global Handwashing Day. With COVID-19 still circulating and flu season coming up, it is a good reminder to practice effective hand hygiene.
