Del Taco offers its guests a unique variety of Mexican favorites prepared fresh in a working kitchen. Del Taco's meals are prepared to order with quality ingredients 24 hours a day!
Ed Hackbarth and David Jameson opened the first Del Taco in Yermo, CA in 1964. With a menu of 19¢ tacos, tostadas, fries and 24¢ cheeseburgers, Del Taco brought in $169 in sales on its first day in business - the equivalent of 900 tacos. Things were off to a bold start. Del Taco thrived during the 1970s. By 1977 there were 50 restaurants and by 1978 there were 100. The menu also grew, expanding to include items like the bun taco, quesadilla and ice cream sundaes.
In 1988, Del Taco greatly increased in size and geographic reach by merging with Naugles restaurant chain. Del Taco also began to stay open all night to serve the growing needs of the new 24/7 lifestyle. By 2006, Del Taco nearly doubled in size and opened the 500th restaurant in 2008. An exciting new dessert was also introduced to the menu that has since become a fan favorite: Caramel Cheesecake Bites. Additionally, the Del Taco Super Special Show launched, treating our fans to a humorous take on our brand. By introducing The Del Taco, the Buck & Under Menu, and even more fresh ingredients like hand sliced avocado, Del Taco continues to be the leader in serving fresh, quality food for a value price. We take pride in chopping, grilling & shredding in our restaurants every day and celebrating the hardest working hands in fast food.
Del Taco is located at 2629 Highway 180 East (next to Walmart) in Silver City, New Mexico. Want to call in an order? Their phone number is
(575) 388-1116.
Watch for information regarding the "official" grand opening in May.

Company invites entrepreneurs to pitch new, niche and innovative products at 6th annual event June 18 - 19, 2019
If you've ever dreamed of potentially reaching thousands of customers with your American products, now is the time to act: Walmart is accepting applications for its 6th annual Open Call, scheduled for June 18 and 19 at the company's Home Office campus in Bentonville, Arkansas. Apply today by visiting Walmart-jump.com for the opportunity to secure a face-to-face pitch meeting with a Walmart buyer. The application deadline is April 30.
"Walmart's Open Call was an amazing experience for Mame's Burritos Company last year," said Michele Bailey who is head of Product and Brand Management for the company. "We were honored to be a part of the experience. It is bringing big things to our sassy little brand, our vendors and our overall production. Mame's is certainly growing up with help of this opportunity."
This year's Open Call attendees could secure deals ranging from a handful of stores in local markets, to supplying hundreds, even thousands of stores, Sam's Clubs and Walmart.com. The two-day event informs, empowers and encourages attendees while providing effective networking opportunities for local entrepreneurs.
"Our customers tell us that products made, sourced or grown in the U.S. are important to them and we work year-round to identify local suppliers and source products that our customers are proud to buy," said Cindi Marsiglio, Walmart's vice president of Merchandise Services and U.S. Manufacturing. "Walmart's Annual Open Call gives us a unique opportunity to meet entrepreneurs from across the country and discover new, niche and innovative products that fill a need for our customers and support jobs right here in America."
During the 2018 Walmart Open Call, nearly 600 meetings were held with product pitches including toys, apparel, natural health and beauty aids, and food. Prospective suppliers traveled from 46 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. More than half of the attending businesses selfidentified as diverse, including nearly 25 percent identifying as women-owned.
Following last year's event, a new line-up of products has begun arriving on Walmart shelves and Walmart.com, representing the dreams of dozens of entrepreneurs across the country, including: * Ahssa Foods LLC, Mesa, Arizona - Low-fat gourmet sauces * Bodylove Naturals, Rogers, Arkansas - Natural skincare products * The Cumberland Companies, Knoxville, Tennessee - Fog-free shaving mirror * Mame's Burrito Company, Denver, Colorado - Organic breakfast burritos * The Perfect Granola, Rochester, New York - Naturally sweetened granola bars * RPM, Savage, Minnesota - Placemats for pet food bowls * Shoe Crazy, Chesterfield, Virginia - Unique wine blends * Wings Cosmetics LLC, Andrews, Texas - Winged eyeliner stamp
In January 2013, Walmart announced its commitment to help boost job creation and U.S. manufacturing through buying an additional $250 billion in products supporting American jobs by 2023. Walmart's Open Call is one way in which the company continues to invest in this commitment. Last year, Walmart spent $107.7 million with 289 suppliers, supporting 8,403 local jobs.

I was just reading an interest piece written by an old IBM'er regarding the gamble that IBM took in developing and bringing the IBM S/360 to market back in the mid-1960s. Prior to the release of the S/360 series terms like compatibility, scalability, interoperability had no meaning in the computer industry. Upgrading to a new computer system meant rewriting all the software, replacing all the peripherals and retraining (completely) or replacing all the system and support staff, until the introduction of the IBM S/360. At this point, I feel it necessary to make a shout-out to all the remaining folks who worked on the CDC 6600 project which also introduced concepts that we are familiar with today like parallelism, interoperability, and multi-tasking.
The S/360 would go on to be an extremely successful business family of systems that included scalability in both performance and capacity while the CDC 6600 would be the first "supercomputer" and the fastest machines in existence from 1964 - 1969 until the release of the CDC 7600. The two companies and projects were as different as possible with IBM using massive teams of designers, engineers, programmers, coders, from all over the world while CDC's 6600 project was composed of Seymour Cray and 33 support personnel counting the janitor. An interesting note, the president of CDC considered Cray and his team to be too large and expensive, an opinion that eventually led to Cray leaving CDC and forming Cray Computers.
Our modern computers share many of the successes of both projects and the demand for ever faster, ever more capable computers has not waned. Even the modern cell phone resembles the CDC 6600 in architecture and carries the S/360's ability to use peripherals from a large pool of types with standard interfaces while sharing software with a wide variety of devices allowing scalability.
The term fast continues to get new meaning on a regular basis. The CDC 6600 was capable of operating at 40mhz allowing it to complete 3 million floating point operations per second (3 megaflops); while this left IBM's fastest offerings in the dust in 1965, it pales when compared to what a modern tablet is capable of (1.5 billion Floating point operations per second) and the tablet fits in your hand. In 1980 Intel released the 8087 math co-processor which gave the 8086 and 8088 the first real opportunity to challenge and surpass the speed of the CDC 6600 in floating point operations. Since 1993 with the introduction of the Pentium from Intel, the math co-processor has been part of the CPU package. The release of the Athlon CPU by AMD in 1999 (production volumes were available but samples had been available in 1998 and retail volume really started in Aug of 1999) introduced the second generation (some say third with a nod to CDC) of math processing. That release set the bar up to 1 gigaflop.
Today we can go out to the local Walmart or any other electronics retailer and buy a 1 terra-flop capable system off the shelf with much faster specialty systems available in the sub-$5k price range. You can also homebrew or order built for you various forms of modern consumer supercomputers including Beowulf designs that start with 64 multi-thread processors and scale up.
As always, if you have questions or would like assistance in the technology arena, Benediktson Computer, Inc. would like to hear from you. Call us at (575) 956-9723 or email to help@benediktson.com

The Mimbres Region Arts Council, in conjunction with premier sponsor Cissy McAndrew/United County Mimbres Realty, lodging sponsor Holiday Inn Express, and Gila Mimbres Community Radio, announces the fourth and final concert for the 2018-19 Indie Folk Series. The Bus Tapes take the stage Saturday, April 20 at 7:30 pm at the
Buckhorn
Opera House, in the scenic mountain town of Pinos Altos- just a 10-minute drive from Silver City.
Hailing from Santa Fe, N.M., The Bus Tapes are a "fresh and funky" band comprised of husband and wife duo Heather Tanner on vocals and guitar, Case Tanner on bass. Playing together for over a decade, they combine original songs and covers of fan favorites to create eclectic folk rock sets with a blues and jazz-inspired twist. The Bus Tapes have won two New Mexico Music Awards-the first in 2012 for "Best Novelty/ Humorous Song" and the second in 2013 for "Best Pop Song."
A rhythmic, acoustic feel on top of relatable song writing is the leading tone behind their collaborative music. Folks enjoy their interactive, friendly show, and appreciate the varying types of music - The Bus Tapes mix it up. One tune might be a funky R&B cover, the next a happy folk song, and the one after that a down-beat ballad
Don't miss out on the chance to hear The Bus Tapes at the historic and intimate Buckhorn Opera House. Doors open at 7:00 pm and the performance begins at 7:30 pm.

NMSU to host state's first hemp conference May 23-24
|
|
|
 |
 |
|
New Mexico State University will offer the state's first-ever workshop for industrial hemp producers in May.
The two-day workshop, hosted by the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences' Cooperative Extension Service, will feature in-depth discussions and presentations on starting a hemp-crop business and cultivating the newly legalized plant for CBD oil, textiles and food items within state and federal rules and regulations.
The workshop will take place May 23-24 in Las Cruces at the New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum, 4100 Dripping Springs Road. It will be presented by horticulture agent Jeff Anderson of the Doña Ana County Extension Office.
"This is the first hemp conference in New Mexico," Anderson said, "and we're going to cover as much as we can in two days. We have a lot of people who are coming to share their expertise and knowledge."
The conference comes as NMSU prepares to take the lead in hemp research and education in New Mexico, following federal and state measures approved last year that legalized the plant, which is related to marijuana but contains less than 0.3 percent of the cannabinoid chemical THC.
At the conference, presenters will explore a range of topics, including: the history and uses of hemp; the differences between CBD and THC; the costs associated with starting a hemp-crop business; soil production and water requirements; organic vs. inorganic production; licensing and regulations from the New Mexico Department of Agriculture; as well as equipment requirements, extraction and biosecurity.
"We'll have one presentation on the legal challenges," Anderson said, "because everyone is going to want to know what are the legal challenges to getting a license. We'll also have one on hemp-growing basics, which will include everything you have to do from planting to seeding to cultivars."
Hemp can be an "unforgiving" crop for novice growers, Anderson said.
"If you make a mistake, it can be expensive," he added. "The license is expensive, and everything you do is going to be expensive. If you make a mistake and go outside of the legal limit of 0.3 percent THC, the whole crop has to be destroyed."
Registration for the conference is required. The cost is $120 per person and includes dinner, snacks and all workshop materials. To register, visit
https://aces.nmsu.edu/2019hempworkshop/ .
The conference marks NMSU's first hemp-related outreach effort. It aligns with the university's broader plan to start a robust hemp research and education program.
Earlier this year, the College of ACES detailed its hemp research and education proposals in a white paper report. The report identified five areas of hemp research expertise and interests, and called for the development of a comprehensive Hemp Research and Extension Center at NMSU, projected to cost an estimated $9.1 million over four years. Funding for the proposed center has not yet been secured.
Still, some of the proposed research would seek to develop the best management practices for hemp production at different locations in New Mexico and eliminate THC production and increase CBD synthesis in hemp. Separately, a proposed value-added agriculture research program would focus on identifying uses of hemp to add value to other commodities.
Hemp research also will be a key component of the new Center of Excellence on Sustainable Food and Agricultural Systems at NMSU.
The CESFAS, proposed by New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham, will be developed in association with General Obligation Bond D, which voters passed by a margin of more than 65 percent in November 2018. The vision is to build a sustainable, vibrant food and agricultural economy in New Mexico through value-added research and education.
