Cobourg has a NEW
Registered Massage Therapist on the team
A bit about Christina:

Relaxation massage and body treatments were an essential part of care Christina provided for many years while working as an esthetician in a highly reputed spa setting in Northumberland County.  It was from this care that she became more interested in furthering her education and training of the body functions and the ways to relieve pain through massage therapies.  Christina provides holistic wellness care using a variety of massage techniques with a focus on myofascial and trigger point therapies.

We-Fix-U is pleased to have Christina join our team of registered massage therapists and multidisciplinary team in Cobourg. She is looking forward to providing you with excellence in care.

It's arthritis!  Will physio help?

As a Physiotherapist, here is my advice to all of you who wish you were 20 again:  THERE IS NO GOOD REASON TO CONTINUE TO PUT UP WITH YOUR PAIN OR LOSS IN MOBILITY

Thousands of research articles will back me up when I say that the majority of people dealing with Arthritis, the aging process, sciatica, range of motion loss, due to pain and weakness are all conditions that are easily treated with Physiotherapy.

If you have arthritis, for example in your knee, most Doctors will say "just live with it, you are getting older" But, if this was truly an arthritic problem why do you not have it in the other knee or all your major joints?

The answer is that your alignment of that joint is off which is giving you arthritic-like symptoms. Fix the alignment in your body, and your body wears more evenly. Fix the muscle imbalances, lost range of motion and/or foot deformity, your pain goes away and you have less irregular wear on your joints -which means you will be able to get back to doing the things that you love.

Now you are thinking, will this work for me?

We are offering you a FREE no obligation, 15-minute PAIN SCREENING with a Physiotherapist or Chiropractor.
Bring your physical and painful challenges, all your questions and concerns and we will let you know if and how we can help you. We will listen, really listen to you. We will answer your questions and discuss all of your options with you.

What is the purpose of sports psychology?

Sports psychotherapists are interested in:
  • helping athletes use psychological principles to achieve optimal mental health and to improve their performance
  • understanding how participation in sport, exercise and physical activity affects an individual's psychological development, health and over all well being.

What is sports psychology?

Sports psychology is an interdisciplinary science that draws on knowledge from many related fields both psychological and physical. It involves the study of how psychological factors affect performance and how participation in sport and exercise affect psychological factors. Sport psychology addresses the interactions between psychology and sport performance, including the psychological aspects of optimal athletic performance, the psychological care and well-being of athletes, coaches, and sport organizations, and the connection between physical and psychological functioning. Sports psychotherapists teach a variety of psychological modalities to athletes in order to improve their experience and their performance in sports. Sports psychotherapy may include working with individual athletes, coaches, parents and entire teams.

What does a sports psychotherapist do?

A sports psychotherapist is a registered and regulated mental health professional who helps athletes improve their performance and focus. He or she works with sports players to help them identify their challenges, work through difficult times, and set goals. Professional sports psychotherapists often help athletes cope with the intense pressure that comes from competition and overcome problems with focus and motivation. They also work with athletes to improve performance and recover from injuries. It is important to note that s ports psyc hotherapists do not just work with elite and professional athletes. They also help regular people learn how to enjoy sports and learn to stick to an exercise program. Sports psychotherapists can participate in various activities, mostly focused on working to understand what motivates athletes and how athletes can improve their performance. These activities can range from counseling  athletes who might have anxiety  issues that hamper their performance to instructing athletes (individually or in groups) on methods of mental conditioning (e.g., visualizations , concentration  and relaxation) to helping athletes deal with injuries and rehabilitation. To put all of this in another way, a sport psychotherapist is working from the perspective that success in sports relies on both the body and mind. To add one other important point, sports psychotherapists are often found working with elite athletes-Olympians and professionals. However, sports psychologists can be found working with athletes at all levels as well as with coaches and sports administrators.
