With a servant's heart and integrity, Kentucky jailers serve a crucial role

Television and film portrayals of correctional institutions run the gamut from a small, homey jail cell in the Mayberry courthouse to crumbling old buildings with Gothic architecture to maximum security prisons surrounded by barbed wire and watch towers.


But these depictions rarely focus on the real world, disciplined leadership responsible for the safety of inmates and staff.

Assistance agreement for Cleaner Water Program grant due by Sept. 1

The Kentucky Infrastructure Authority (KIA) recently held a webinar for grantees, local officials, administrators and engineers on completing the assistance agreement to receive Cleaner Water Program grant funds.

Insurance safety grant now open; deadline is Sept. 16

All members of the KACo Workers Compensation Fund or the KACo All Lines Fund are invited to apply for grants for future purchases made with intent of helping the member reduce losses in connection with either of these two insurance funds. This includes purchases of equipment, training and consulting services.

KACo Leadership Institute: Best practices for opioid settlement funds

The next session of the KACo Leadership Institute’s focus on opioid settlement funds will feature discussions on compassionate care, effective prevention strategies, regional collaboration and county jail compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.


The seminar will run 9:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. CDT Thursday, Aug. 29 at the Green River Area Development District in Owensboro.

Seven Kentucky counties affected by the 2022 floods received more than $23 million from the Eastern Kentucky State Aid for Emergencies Fund. Breathitt County Judge/Executive Jeff Noble, Floyd County Judge/Executive Robbie Williams, Perry County Judge/Executive Scott Alexander and Letcher County Judge/Executive Terry Adams attended the presentation. 

Daviess County’s Apollo High School Small Animal Science class had a visit from the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office K-9 program to learn about service dogs.

The Gateway ADD hosted our Listening Tour in Rowan County. We appreciate our county officials who shared their thoughts, concerns and potential solutions to the many issues facing counties. Officials broke ground on a new terminal building at the Mount Sterling-Montgomery County Airport. The new facility will enhance the general aviation travel experience with modern amenities, increased capacity, and improved services. 

The KACo Leadership Institute held a two-day applicant agent workshop this week. Participants learned about the importance of this role when a disaster strikes.
