June 2021 Newsletter

As we start to recover from what has been a very challenging year for the medical community, I can’t think of another time when healthcare workers and nurses deserved more recognition. We began a difficult journey with lots of uncertainty around this disease but, by quickly implementing new processes, adopting new organizational behaviors, and managing new unforeseen risks, many lives were saved. A year later, we are now emerging stronger than ever with a long over-due return to normalcy. 


With this return to normalcy, The Joint Commission is now resuming surveys! Therefore, this month’s articles highlight two areas of concern that organizations need to be aware of. Denise’s article “Is Your Staff Competent and Can You Prove It?” focuses on Competency Assessment and why it is frequently cited. Chris’ article “Glucometer Infection Control Practices” calls attention to The Joint Commission’s increasing concerns regarding improper infection control practices that could lead to Immediate Threat citations.
