Isaiah's Mother Needed Help Making Her Home Safe for Her Son

Isaiah was only two months old when his mother was arrested for shoplifting baby items with him in her arms. Young and with no support, his mother had resorted to dangerous choices to provide for her son. Isaiah's Dallas CASA volunteer Priscilla worked closely with both Isaiah and his mother in the hopes the two could be safely reunited.

Shared Advocacy Unites Couple

For Cristina and Michael Swartz, sharing a Dallas CASA case was the plan from the start. Married three years and each with busy full-time jobs, the pair thought sharing a case would help with scheduling. They didn't realize how valuable the emotional support would be. "We give each other different perspectives. I may be thinking of something on a case in one way, and he'll see it a different way."

High School Students Build for Dallas CASA Parade of Playhouses

Students from Irving's MacArthur High School and Dallas' Skyline High School worked with architects from Architecture Demarest to design and build a playhouse for Dallas CASA's Parade of Playhouses. The experience benefited everyone.  "I have heard that you learn more by teaching, and there is so much truth to that statement," said architect Mike Lerner. "Working with these students helps make me a better architect and a better mentor for our younger staff in the office."  To read more, visit Dallas CASA's blog .

Parade of Playhouses at NorthPark Center opens this week. For more information or to purchase raffle tickets to win one of this year's extraordinary playhouses, visit Dallas CASA Parade of Playhouses.

Quilters from First United Methodist Church of Duncanville delivered the group's 3,000th handmade quilt to Dallas CASA in May. Dallas CASA's volunteers take the special quilts when they visit with the children they serve.  Since the group's founding at First United Methodist of Duncanville, groups from Holy Spirit Catholic Church, the DeSoto Senior Center, Grace Place Duncanville, Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and others have joined in. The group creates quilts for different age groups, from crib-sized blankets for newborns to twin bed-sized quilts for teenagers.
Former Dallas CASA Volunteer Now a State Legislator

Former Dallas CASA volunteer Julie Johnson is pursuing a new type of advocacy as a first-time Texas state legislator serving in the Texas House of Representatives. She says her experience as a volunteer advocate has served her well already.   "My CASA experience really put things into perspective, showing me how vulnerable some children are and how critical services for the disadvantaged are to these children. Attending the Dallas CASA training but then also seeing the system up close changed me." Read more on Dallas CASA's blog.
