View Yourself As Others See You....

Hi  ,

Is it possible for us to view ourselves as others see us? I wonder how many of us know someone that no matter how good it seems that their life is, they just seem unhappy. Maybe it's you. Ouch! That really hurts right?

You know you have good in your life but maybe you still wake up with a feeling of dread because your life just doesn't look or feel like you expected it would? Do you have to stay in that uncomfortable place? Is it a life sentence? Of course not.

Imagine capturing a helicopter view of yourself?  Do you think you might see your life differently? I bet you would.

Quite often I work with women who wake up every day and one of their first thoughts is that they dread their day.  Trust me, these are not the women you might expect. They are women who are beautiful inside and out. They have envious gifts and talents and even show up to their lives doing and serving for others in their communities. You can't see the war they battle everyday of their lives. All we see is the pretty girl with the pretty smile. We think "she's got it all" or so it seems from our outside view.

Are you Dealing with Shame?

Written by Groundwire.net
I saved this a while back because it's good. Unfortunately, these guys took down their blogs. It's long so I am including the best pieces. If you want the rest let me know and I will email it to you. I hope this helps someone. It is good info but not inclusive or a fit for everyone who suffers from shame. Audio link at the bottom.
So, what does shame do?

What are the tangible ways that it affects lives?
Here is a short, but definitely not comprehensive list.

Shame puts you in a bondage of self-perception.  Although you want to believe all of the wonderful things that the Bible says about you, you can't.

Shame handcuffs you to your past.  You want to hope for better things in the future, but you can't seem to overcome your past.

Shame won't let you receive love.  You can't receive authentic compliments and you tend to destroy otherwise healthy relationships.

Shame steals your joy.  "Where is this abundant life the Bible promises?"
Shame makes you settle for less than you deserve.  God wants to lead you into wonderful relationships and abundant blessings, but you make poor decisions and live in regret.

Shame thrusts you into destructive tendencies. Substances, damaging relationships, self-mutilation, eating disorders and the like tend to follow those overwhelmed with shame.

  1. Shame comes from sin and mistakes.(John 8: 1-11).  We all have made mistakes.  But, some sins carry with them shame that tries to attach itself and alter your life. If you don't figure out how to let God, not only forgive you, but remove the shame, you will continually struggle.
  2. Shame comes from pain and abuse. (II Samuel 13:1-20)  Some people struggle with shame not because of their choices, but because of what was done to them.  Although I cannot explain why God would allow some of those things to happen to you, I do know that he can heal your heart and help you overcome your shame.
  3. Shame comes from awkward and uncomfortable feelings. (Acts 3:1-8) Ever felt out of place or abnormal. Can't say the right thing?  Don't look the right way?  Intense and desperate feelings of insecurity are often the things that introduce shame into an otherwise normal life.
Believe it or not, the Bible talks about shame 128 times (NIV).  God knew that this was going to be a critical topic...one that would affect many people.  He did not ignore it and we can't either. It's important that we understand what scripture says.
Here are just a few of the mentions.

"The man and his wife were both naked and they felt no shame." Genesis 2:25
You were created to walk free from shame.
"Do not be afraid; you will not suffer shame. Do not fear disgrace; you will not be humiliated. You will forget the shame of your youth and remember no more the reproach of your widowhood." Isaiah 54:4

Although the memories may remain, with God's help you can get to a place where you are not paralyzed by shame.

"Instead of their shame my people will receive a double portion, and instead of disgrace they will rejoice in their inheritance; and so they will inherit a double portion in their land, and everlasting joy will be theirs."  Isaiah 61:7

God longs to take away your shame and bless you in ways unimaginable.

Is shame stealing from you?  Are its affects visible in your life?  If so, I want you to understand that God longs to heal your wounds, remove your pain, and help you walk free from shame.  Perhaps this article will provide the necessary push to talk to a spiritual leader about your past.  Perhaps, it will drive you to study scripture more deeply searching for answers.  Or, maybe, you will spend some time talking with God about the emotions you sense on a regular basis.

***If you would like to hear more, they have an audio called "Overcoming Shame"   Just be warned. I have no idea how good or bad the audio is. I only know the blog had great value.
Each Month I will spotlight one business or ministry. By doing this I hope to add value to your life and show you something or someone I am possibly inspired by or have been blessed by. It's possible that I just see it as something to serve a need someone has.  Pass it on if you love it or contact for more info. Too many of us suffer from shame and un-forgiveness due to abortion!

The Tarnished Crown
Saundra Patton Decker

There she goes... the newly crowned 1987 Miss West Virginia, Saundra Patton, taking that traditional walk down the Miss America runway in Atlantic City.   She was signing autographs, making appearances and was viewed as a role model.

A few months later, she was unexpectedly pregnant and lying on a cold, metal table in an abortion clinic preparing to abort her first child. This silent, devastating choice would lead her into a second abortion and a whirlwind of emotional consequences that would wipe away any hopes of the fame and stardom that had been awaiting her.

Denial was the only way to cope, but in her silence the destruction began. Days after her first abortion, an eating disorder began haunting her. Low self-esteem, depression, cheating, stealing, lying, an abusive marriage, feeling unworthy to have children, excessive partying and divorce replaced her once happy and successful life.

For twenty years, a smile was painted on her face in the presence of others, but it was the unending guilt, shame and misery that led her on a journey to search for forgiveness. In February of 2003, Saundra gave her life to the Lord.

She enrolled in Forgiven and Set Free, a post abortion healing study, and finally confessed and accepted God's love and forgiveness for her abortions and was able to grieve the loss of her two unborn children, Christian and Nicole.

Saundra is now the Executive Director of Abortion Hurts. God Heals! and is co-host of the ministry's weekly radio program on AM 630 KSLR, The Word in South Texas.

Psalm 30: 11-12
"You have turned my mourning into joyful dancing. You have taken away my clothes of mourning and clothed me in joy, that I might sing praises to you and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give you thanks forever."

We, as a team, want you to know that abortion in NOT the unforgivable sin.

Abortion is one of those topics that no-one wants to talk about. The topic is so controversial that, unfortunately, even many churches avoid discussing it. God has spoken to my heart, that the silence needs to end and that it is time for the healing to begin for those living in shame and guilt from their abortion experiences.  Abortion Hurts. God Heals! ministry and team members are the voices that need to be heard! We are the voices of experience, transformation, hope and healing.

Abortion Hurts. God Heals! was originally created to present panel events for churches, women's ministry events and retreats. During these panel events, post abortive women would share why they chose abortion, the consequences they had acquired as a result of their abortions, what led them to healing and how God has forgiven and set them free.

For months, we sat quietly waiting for this to flourish.  We had no response. God had other plans.....the opportunity was offered to our ministry to host a weekly radio program!!!!  WOW!  Neither, Virginia Lange (my co-director) nor I had any radio experience whatsoever... but when a door opens, we must be obedient and answer the call.  Virginia and I created a demo, KSLR sent it off to Salem Communications and we were accepted! So, now you can hear us on www.kslr.com or AM 630 - KSLR, The Word in South Texas every Sunday night from 7-8 PM CST.  On the Abortion Hurts. God Heals! radio program, both women and men are sharing the hope of healing from abortion for the world to hear!  We are even being heard in the Ukraine!   How amazing is that!?!!?

And now that we have been on the radio, we have been providing panel events for churches and organizations,  speaking at universities, and training pregnancy care center workers!   It's been an incredible journey and we can't wait to see lives being changed.
