LETTER FROM AMITAmit

The first 100 days = Thanksgiving

Amit Yaniv-Zahavi

When my kids were in 1st grade, the first 100 days were counted and celebrated. We arrived here in Milwaukee on August 17th, so Thanksgiving will be exactly 100 days, and symbolically, my birthday too! So, I have been feeling thankful and grateful for many things:

To my parents for living in NY when I was 0-10, thus granting me my English, which is obviously very useful on Shlichut

Doron, my husband these past 18 years, for halting his fast paced hi-tech career in mid-air to join me on this personal quest and family odyssey because he knew I had to do this - it was mactoub (written in the stars)

My 3 kids (Yonatan, Daniel & Neta) who reluctantly left behind scores of jealous and upset friends and family members and a clueless cat to be thrown into a new reality.

To the amazing Israel-loving Jewish community of Milwaukee who have been welcoming, curious, kind and generous and won't stop asking us: "Are you ready for the winter?" In case you're wondering, the answer is "No." I don't think our barefoot family will ever be adjusted to the Wisconsin temperatures, but that doesn't mean we won't enjoy it!

In these 100 days, I have gotten to know many of you, created meaningful ties and have begun planning way ahead (a good American habit I kept from long ago). I look forward to dreaming and creating meaningful programs together with the community in the future. Stay posted!

Lehitraot!
