EXCERPTS

... none of the proposed initiatives to improve the functioning and efficacy of the UN has been convincing as yet, and there is little hope that the UN with its present structure and function would champion the existing world problems. It is worth noting that Article 109 of the UN Charter states that the Charter itself must be reviewed within ten years of its founding in 1945 by organizing an ad hoc conference (San Francisco’s Promise). However, such a conference has not yet taken place, so the UN violates its own rules.  ...

This shows us that solving the enormity of the issues that humanity faces cannot be achieved through an organization that allows some countries to have more power and privileges in detriment of the rest and that, in addition, it lacks the strength and capacity to implement the reached agreements. But, if the UN is not structured to address effectively the global challenges, then, what are the alternatives? We believe that the only remaining viable alternative is the founding of a Federation of the Earth that encompasses the established and future federations around the world. Indeed, the creation of a democratic world government was already envisaged by thinkers such as Immanuel Kant, Mahatma Gandhi and Albert Einstein; however, it was not until 1968 when the World Constitutional Convention and the Peoples World Parliament held in Interlaken (Switzerland) and Wolfach (Germany), drafted the Earth Constitution that was subsequently amended in 1977, 1979 and 1991 (http://worldparliament-gov.org/constitution/the-earth-constitution/) to ensure peace, disarmament, justice, equality, dignity, and environmental sustainability for everyone in the world. Once the Earth Constitution has been ratified by world citizens, the Federation of Earth should be created to empower world citizens and countries to drive the necessary changes to ensuring the well-being of people on a global scale...

They're Repeating the Word 'Unprovoked' Again this Time in Defense of Israel

Caitlin Johnstone

EXCERPTS

It’s clear by now that whenever you see the word “unprovoked” being forcefully repeated in a uniform way across the entire political/media class, whatever they’re talking about was definitely massively provoked.

We saw this exact same thing when Russia invaded Ukraine; from the very beginning western politics and media were saturated with the word “unprovoked”, bashing the western public in the face with that message over and over and over again despite the obvious and undeniable fact that the war in Ukraine was most definitely provoked.

As Noam Chomsky quipped last year, “Of course, it was provoked. Otherwise, they wouldn’t refer to it all the time as an unprovoked invasion.”

And the same is of course true of the latest Hamas offensive. There are all kinds of arguments you could legitimately make about it, but one argument you definitely cannot defend is that it was unprovoked. As Palestinian-American writer and comedian Amer Zahr put it on Twitter, “75 years of ethnic cleansing. 15 years of blockade. Confiscation of Palestinian lands. Pogroms on Palestinian towns. Desecration of Palestinian sacred sites. Daily raids into Palestinian homes. Constant humiliation of a entire people. Nothing about today is ‘unprovoked.’

EXCERPTS

I received dozens of messages inquiring about my thoughts on what is going on now in Palestine and how we are doing and what is going to happen. I also did some TV & Radio interviews. It is really very simple: we have 15 million native Palestinians, 8 million of us are refugees or displaced people (2/3rd of Gaza's 2.2 million are refugees). Israel cannot be allowed to get away with stealing lands and resources and setting up a racist apartheid regime. Even besieged, starving, blockaded people in Gaza manage to break through their prison walls.

Just about everyone knows that the areas near Gaza are Palestinian and that their settlement by colonialists is theft. Most of Gaza population are refugees who come from these places that have been renamed to things like “Sderot” (built on the depopulated Palestinian village of Najd) and settled by Jewish colonial settlers within eyesight of the original owners of the land who were pushed at the point of the gun to become refugees and denied their internationally recognized right to return to their homes and lands. But even if one considers the “Gaza envelope” an area of “Israel” (it is not even by UN partition resolution), Israel has since 1967 occupied the West Bank, the Gaza Strip and the Golan contrary to UN resolutions and international law and refuses to allow Palestinians self-determination.

The apartheid Israeli regime has elected to intensify its colonization activities (violence, crimes against humanity, war crimes) everywhere (e.g. in the Negev by destroying remaining Bedouin communities, In Jerusalem and the rest of the West Bank). Palestinians have been demanding international protection. We Palestinian have been publicly telling the Zionist regime to end its onslaught on the Palestinian holy sites and the Palestinian people. Instead the ultra right fascist government of apartheid Israel continued to proceed as a colonial power. Killing people, destroying homes, closing the Ibrahim mosque, breaking into Al-Aqsa mosque, settlers spitting on Christians, etc. They have not listened and chose the path of increased violence.

Palestinians Speak the Language of Violence Israel Taught Them

Chris Hedges

Excerpts

The indiscriminate shootings of Israelis by Hamas and other Palestinian resistance organizations, the kidnapping of civilians, the barrage of rockets into Israel, drone attacks on a variety of targets from tanks to automated machine gun nests, are the familiar language of the Israeli occupier. Israel has spoken this blood-soaked language of violence to the Palestinians since Zionist militias seized more than 78 percent of historic Palestine, destroyed some 530 Palestinian villages and cities and killed about 15,000 Palestinians in more than 70 massacres.

Some 750,000 Palestinians were ethnically cleansed between 1947 and 1949 to create the state of Israel in 1948.

Israel never had any interest in an equitable settlement with the Palestinians. It built an apartheid state and has steadily absorbed larger and larger tracts of Palestinian land in a slow-motion campaign of ethnic cleansing. It turned Gaza in 2007 into the world’s largest open-air prison.

What does Israel, or the world community, expect? How can you trap 2.3 million people in Gaza, half of whom are unemployed, in one of the most densely populated spots on the planet for 16 years, reduce the lives of its residents, half of whom are children, to a subsistence level, deprive them of basic medical supplies, food, water, and electricity, use attack aircraft, artillery, mechanized units, missiles, naval guns, and infantry units to randomly slaughter unarmed civilians and not expect a violent response? Israel is currently carrying out waves of aerial assaults on Gaza, preparing a ground invasion, and has cut the power to Gaza, which usually only operates two to four hours per day.

Haaretz Blames Netanyahu: Bye Bye Bibi!?!

Rich Scheck

Haaretz, one of Israel's top newspapers, blames Bibi Netanyahu for the unfolding tragedy in Israel.

I agree!  https://archive.ph/V57kX

Biden, Trump, RFK, West, Manchin and anyone else running for president should condition further aid to Israel on his removal as Prime Minister.

Netanyahu has failed to bring peace to the region and enabled religious extremists to exacerbate the tensions inherent in the claims of the 3 Abrahamic faiths.

As usual, innocent civilians are the victims of their righteous leaders who are puffed-up with self-importance and grandiose ideas of conquest in the name of their God.

Some observers believe Israel stood down to allow Hamas to infiltrate and slaughter women, children and young party goers to afford Bibi a pretext for attacking Iran. That seems plausible to the extent its intelligence forces are considered the world's best.

Irrespective of whether they actually were surprised or somehow enabled this obviously long-planned operation, Haaretz is correct that Netanyahu must take the blame.

Bibi's latest tenure as PM has been marked by enormous dissension among Israelis who are deeply concerned by his authoritarian thrusts against the nation's judiciary as well as his indulgence of the hard right coalition partners who insist on provoking all of Islam by such actions as defiling The Temple Mount area sacred to Muslims.

These repeated provocations have now led to the unleashing of the full fury of a deeply wounded, long-suffering people who have little sympathy for their antagonists' demands for a Jewish State as reparation for the Holocaust or redemption of biblical prophecy.

The unhealed pain of both of these hostile groups provides the perfect fuel for exploitation by outside forces who benefit from interfering in the conflict under the guise of promoting peace because it provides them with access to precious resources like oil, fosters huge profits from arms sales and/or allows them to please domestic constituents who feel entitled to dominate the Holy Land.

To the extent these outside forces are superpowers armed with nukes like Russia and the US, we have the formula for catastrophe lurking every moment, waiting to be triggered, unleashing the savagery we witnessed again on Saturday.

Somehow, sanity must prevail if we are to survive as a planetary civilization. Somehow, we must put an end to this unending cycle of violence. The UN has proven to be impotent while religious leaders are too locked into their own dogma to transcend the madness.

Obviously, the arrival of a Spiritual Master would arguably help. Absent Christ, Mohammed, Buddha, Maitreya or an ET that can get our full attention to humble humanity while bringing a cessation of the killing, those of us appalled by this gruesome spectacle must endure the tragedy as best we can.

Until that prayerful moment arrives, as a baby-step towards improving the situation, it's clear to me,  Netanyahu must go. Bye, bye Bibi!
