Policy Update
Milestone: 115 Members of Congress Support PHIT
The PHIT Coalition has achieved an unprecedented level of bipartisan support, including 103 cosponsors in the House and 12 in the Senate. PHIT is well positioned for a year-end package.  The strong support for PHIT has made it an anchor of the bi-partisan HSA bill. 

The Personal Health Investment Today (PHIT) Act is legislation pending in Congress that would expand the IRS definition of a "medical expense" to include physical activity as a form of prevention. Learn More
Update Physical Activity Guidelines Advisory Committee
The 2018 Physical Activity Guidelines Advisory Committee recently held the 5th and final public meeting. The Committee is now working to compile its scientific review of the evidence into its 2018 Physical Activity Guidelines Advisory Committee Scientific Report. Once this is submitted to the Secretary of HHS, it will be available for public comment, which they anticipate will be early 2018. The Scientific Report will be then be translated by the federal government into the next edition of the Guidelines.

Take the #Jump4More Health & PE Challenge
On Speak Out Day during American Heart Month, HPE advocates will meet face-to-face with their members of Congress to ask for more Title IV, Part A federal funding under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). These funds can support a well-rounded education, specifically health and PE in schools.

American Heart Association and SHAPE America invite students to speak out too by taking part in a fun social media video challenge! Help Congressional representatives hear directly from them on why HPE are so important!

FDA Rolls Out Decision Support, Mobile Health Guidance
The Food and Drug Administration recently released three new guidance documents with implications for the digital health industry, including one highly anticipated guideline on how the agency plans to regulate clinical decision support tools. The draft guidance covers decision support technology for both clinicians and patients and builds on several notable exemptions outlined in the 21st Century Cures Act. First-Ever Youth Compendium of Physical Activity
The National Collaborative on Childhood Obesity Research (NCCOR) has launched online the Youth Compendium of Physical Activities to help childhood obesity and physical activity researchers and practitioners estimate the associated energy expenditure of a variety of activities in which youth participate. The Youth Compendium of Physical Activities provides a list of 196 common activities in which youth participate and the estimated energy cost associated with each activity. Learn More
