Strengthening Stark: A Call for Economic Transformation
has identified the need to educate and "upskill" adults in Stark County. "By 2020, nearly two-thirds of all jobs are projected to require a post-secondary credential or higher in the U.S., but presently less than 30% of Stark County residents have at least an associate degree."
Across the state, more than 135,000 Ohioans are just a few courses away from a degree.[1] Locally,
an increased effort by Stark State College - FINISH FOR YOUR FUTURE - is a strategy designed to attract individuals who began college or a credential program and got close to the goal but fell short.
"We're ready to support students in what they need to reach their goal,"
declared Marisa Rohn, Vice President for Advancement, Marketing and Strategic Partnerships.
The reasons students "stop out" are well known and can be insurmountable without support - financial problems, conflict with work schedules, transportation and/or childcare.
"The college has resources to connect individual adult students to financial aid, community agencies, social service agencies, academic supports, work opportunities and more,"
Rohn added.
On
May 14 from 6:00-7:30 pm, the FINISH FOR YOUR FUTURE team will meet with prospective students in M100/101 at Stark State College. Returning or exploring students are encouraged to attend to learn how they can complete a certificate, industry licensure, associate degree, baccalaureate or advanced degree.
FINISH FOR YOUR FUTURE is part of the Ohio Attainment Goal's Cradle to Career Community Challenge Grant. Stark State is one of twelve institutions developing strategies and a communications plan to meet the 2025 Attainment Goal of 65% of Ohioans ages 25-64 to have an education beyond high school.
