College Connector and Guides Making Huge Impact in Stark County

"Ohio College Guides and United Way College Connector have made a huge impact on Canton City School District students, employees and community. One of our district goals is to ensure that CCSD is  preparing our students to be career and college ready. The guides assist in planning, organizing and
facilitating Parent  Academies for  parents and students  looking  for more information and access to college admissions, financial  aid,  scholarships and  completing the college application process.
Our  guides helped  organize a College Application
Day district-wide which led to almost 200 students completing at least one college application." - Harold Carter, College Pathways Coordinator

At Alliance High School , we have seen an increase the last 5 years in our number of students taking the ACT. Before we had the college connector position,  we averaged around 70-80 students taking the ACT each year. Since 2011, we have had at least 100 students take the ACT each year. As a result, we have more students attending college because of the assistance of a college connector. - Shawn Jackson, Principal

We have had an Ohio College Guide at Washington High School for 5 years. The guides are able to relate to our students about  college because they themselves have just completed this phase of their education. The guides have improved the number of our students taking the ACT in a timely fashion and are able to spend more time discussing colleges than a counselor would have during a typical work day. - Amy Brahler, School Counselor
