Stark's Post Secondary Opportunities Now Represent Millions in College Savings
Reaching for 80%

Post secondary opportunities enable students to earn or bank college credit while still in high school.

Over the last decade, the Stark County Educational Service Center, with the county's 17 school districts and their college partners, have expanded such programs to the point where they now represent millions in college tuition savings for students and their families.

During the 2010-11 academic year, nearly 5,000 such opportunities enabled students to earn the equivalent of 12,000 three hour college courses. Depending where students eventually enroll in college, savings can range from $5 to as high as $18 million dollars.

This and other findings are in a new publication, Reaching for 80%, by the Stark Education Partnership. The publication looks at the impact of Stark's post secondary opportunities that include high school based dual credit, Early College High School, College Tech Prep, Advanced Placement courses and the Post Secondary Enrollment Option.
