November is Ohio College Application Month

According to a study by the Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce, by 2018, nearly 60% of all jobs in Ohio will require postsecondary training beyond high school. In response to that need Ohio has determined that November is Ohio College Application Month with the goal of helping all graduating seniors navigate through the college admissions process and ensure that each student submits at least one admissions application.

Canton McKinley High School recently hosted College Application Day where over 2,000 students participated.  According to Ben Carter, College Pathways Coordinator, "This was a great event for our district and
consolidated high school. All of our seniors  were able to participate and fill out admission applications. The underclassmen were able to gather information and talk with university officials about their interest and desired majors. The best part of this event was the collaboration and teamwork of our high school and administrative staff and college officials to ensure that our students realize their future educational dreams and pursuits."

Emily Gardner, Americorps Ohio College Guide, and Chris Deschaine, United Way College Connector, organized and staffed the event along with the school counselors. Districts across the county have reported that they are planning similar events at their high schools in support of their students.
