It Could Be Different
by Father Casey
All summer we’ve been hearing from the Hebrew prophets in our weekend worship. They aren’t the easiest voices in the Bible to listen to, I know, for they crackle with a current of holy electricity. For those who are new to reading the Bible, they can feel aggressive and even angry, but I hope after the last few months of careful listening that you’ve begun to hear the word of the Lord in them. They may be raw, but they remain oh so relevant.
The prophets lived in tumultuous times, when cruelty was becoming commonplace and being great was far more important than being good; when the lives of the rich mattered more than the lives of the poor; when those in charge could no longer tell the difference between right and wrong; when religion had become a prop for the powerful and God little more than a mascot. Not at all like today, right?
Prophets are sometimes confusingly thought to be predictors of the future, but it would be truer to say that the prophets are raw truthtellers about the present. What could seem like a supernatural ability to predict what’s going to happen to us is more about naming the consequences of our actions unless we change our ways. If we neglect the needs of the ...

New Site, Same Great Community!
This past week, our website received an update with a new design that supports our vision for growth within the parish. The revamped site is primarily aimed at individuals who may be looking for a church home, rather than focusing solely on our current congregation. However, we believe that our members will still find the site informative and engaging. We anticipate that the website will continue to grow and evolve, with new features planned throughout the year.
We are excited to announce that along with our new and improved website, we have updated our ministries and events listings in Realm to keep our community informed. If you're looking for ministry opportunities, you can now easily search for various ministry groups using the "Find A Group" function. Ministry leaders will regularly use Realm to keep you connected and updated on all your ministry activities.
If you don't have Realm access or if you have forgotten how to sign-in, just let us know using the button below and we will get you up and running. Realm is for members of our parish and those who are actively engaged in the life of our congregation. So, your information is never visible to those outside our church community.

Guns to Gardens (G2G) allows owners of unwanted firearms to safely dispose of them, after which the weapons are dismantled and the pieces transformed by blacksmiths into garden tools. It is the modern day realization of the Biblical vision of Isaiah 2:4 and Micah 4:3.Transfiguration, in partnership with several local pastors and religious leaders, especially the Presbyterian Peace Fellowship, will host this event Sunday, September 7, from 2:00 to 5:00 pm.
Spread the word. Let people in your life know about this public service. No advanced registration is required. Gun owners need only to show up on September 7 with their unloaded firearm in their trunk or backseat.
Volunteer. We need greeters and general helpers, but we are still looking for a few people with firearm safety training, so if you know anyone like this, please encourage them to be in touch at dallascountyguns2gardens@gmail.com.
Donate. Help us purchase safety equipment and provide for gift cards for gun donors. Donate by clicking here.
Pray. This is an act of faith. Please pray for everyone involved, that God will bless our work for peace.
