President's Message - Judy Weston

Working for the harvest

I don’t know about you, but it has been a hard month to get my faith going. Activities and events have been a struggle on my prayer life. Tonight, I think God made it clear. As I drove home from yet another volleyball match,

I noticed the sun was shining and the fall colors are beginning to be spectacular. It made me realize how the harvest is at hand.

How are you planting the seeds for a good harvest?

The Rosary

The month of October is filled with many wonderful feast days. It starts out with St.

Therese of the Child Jesus, The Guardian Angels, and St. Francis of Assisi, and that’s just in the first four days. Along with these Saints, October is dedicated to Our Lady of The Rosary. Her Feast Day is October 7.

Divine Mercy - Bonnie Damrow

One early Church Father (Tertullian) said that “the blood of martyrs is the seed of the

Church.” This means that the shedding of one’s blood for the faith is not ultimately a tragedy;

rather, it’s something that is transformed by Christ so as to nourish the faith of others. And

although you are most likely not to become a martyr in fact (shedding your blood), you are called to be a martyr in spirit by the day-to-day willing sacrifice of your life for the good of the Church.

Service - Joyce Reich

Often, the answer to our prayer does not come while we’re on our knees but while we’re on our feet serving the Lord and serving those around us. - Dieter F. Uehtdorf

There are so many ways to serve our Lord and His people. The Corporal Works of Mercy were outlined to give us ways to live our Catholic faith and be of assistance to those that are in need.

Leadership - Carlece Kenner

Please welcome Carlece Kenner as our new leadership chair. She will fill the remaining term which will conclude at the convention in April. Carlece is from Hebron (Fairbury Deanery) where she lives with her husband Pat. She is a mother of 4 and a grandmother to 12 who enjoys attending their activities. Carlece also enjoys playing the piano, trying new restaurants and traveling. Volunteering seems to e what she does most!

Legislative - Alice Licht-Anderson

Who has the crystal ball for 2026 Legislation and Issues? It’s pretty much watching the current events and problems arising between now and the January Session. There are several things occurring that will most likely mold the actions in Lincoln. Events happening nationally will surely affect Congress and the Executive branches of government as well.

President's Project:

Adopt a Pregnancy Center

Please choose a Pregnancy Center you would like to support. Many of those who volunteer would enjoy the personal connection from their local Parish Council of Catholic Women (PCCW). We currently have lists from pregnancy centers and one from St. Gianna for their apartment needs. Please use the list as a reference of what to purchase. If you wish to send money to the Pregnancy Center please send the money  directly to Pregnancy Center

The spiritual needs of the centers are important as well. Use the Spiritual Bouquet cards and send them to your local pregnancy center and let them know they are receiving  spiritual cover to do their work.

Our Lady of Protection

October 14th on the Gregorian calender is the feast of Our Lady of Protection.

This feast day celebrates the rescue of Constaniople from the attack of a Rus'Khaganate army.

The event happened during an all-night vigil in the church of Saint Mary of Blachernae, in Constantinople. The church was overcrowded with people in prayer who were imploring Mary’s protection. At four in the morning, the Fool-for-Christ St. Andrei saw the Theotokos entering the doors of the church, surrounded by an assembly of Saints. Saint John the Baptist and Saint John the Theologian accompanied the Queen of Heaven.

The Theotokos approached the center of the church, knelt down and remained in prayer for a long time, her face drowned in tears. The Virgin Mary asked Her Son, Jesus Christ, to accept the prayers of all the people entreating Him and looking for Her protection. Then she took her veil off and spread it over the people as a sign of protection. The most Holy Lady was resplendent with heavenly glory and the protecting veil in her hands gleamed “more than the rays of the sun.” While gazing at the miraculous vision, Saint Andrei asked his disciple Epiphanius, “Do you see the Mother of God and Queen of Heaven?” to which Epiphanius answered, “I do see Holy Father, and I am in awe.”

Due to the intercession of the Mother of God, Constantinople was spared from bloodshed and suffering.
