On December 8, volunteers helped pull ivy from trees at The Fields of Arlington apartment complex. Volunteers also canvassed the Columbia Heights neighborhood. They are excited to return to Columbia Heights soon for more community engagement. | |
The 2024 Energy Masters graduates had their first work day at the Gates of Ballston on December 16. Energy Masters new and seasoned delivered hands-on conservation upgrades to apartments at the Gates of Ballston. | |
EcoAction Arlington was honored to be part of the 2nd annual KidsGiving Fair on December 2. The event was an opportunity to teach kids about the importance of giving.

MLK Day of Service
January 15
We are proud to partner with Volunteer Arlington for the 2024 MLK Day of Service on Monday, January 15. This day of service helps strengthen and empower our community through hands-on volunteer opportunities. We will clean up trash and debris from Four Mile Run at either Barcroft Park from 10 a.m. to noon or Jennie Dean Park from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Groups welcome. All ages welcome, children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Registration required.

Board members serve a two-year term beginning the 1st of April.

Getting to Zero Carbon Buildings
February 15
7:00 p.m.
Learn from practitioners about progress in reducing the carbon footprint of new buildings needed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and meet carbon neutrality goals. Zero carbon buildings incorporate high energy efficiency, fossil-fuel free operation, renewable energy and low or even negative carbon materials. This webinar will also explore challenges, metrics for gauging return on investment, and policy opportunities to accelerate change. Registration required.

Sixth Annual EcoExtravaganza
April 25, 6:30-9:00 p.m.
Save the date for the Sixth Annual EcoExtravaganza on Thursday, April 25 from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. The event will take place at Clare and Don's Beach Shack, 130 N. Washington St., Falls Church with an evening that includes drinks, food, and a celebration of our work conserving and protecting waterways and building a more sustainable Arlington community.
Tickets go on sale in January.

Stormwater Utility Credit
Through January 15, 2024 all property owners in Arlington can apply for voluntary credits offsetting up to 35% of their stormwater utility bill. Qualifying credit opportunities will be calculated based on the type of property and actions taken, such as tree planting, volunteer activities, and installing some types of pervious surfaces.
Read the Stormwater Credit Manual in English or Spanish, and view the credit program video for more details, including application instructions, required documentation, and tips for a successful submission.

Community Spotlight: Radnor/Ft Meyer |
The Radnor/Fort Myer Heights neighborhood is situated between the Court House and Rosslyn Metro stations and split by Route 50. There are a mix of housing types from townhouses and condominiums to garden apartments and co-ops, and fewer than a dozen single-family homes. There are a number of parks, including Hillside Park. It is quite easy to get around the neighborhood with a Walk Score of 84/100, there is excellent public transportation and it is somewhat bikeable. Its tree canopy is 17%.* It has a Tree Equity Score of 77. To learn more watch a video of a walking tour through the neighborhood.
