At its April 23 meeting, the Board unanimously approved an agreement with TeamCivX to provide consulting services. While the Board has made no decision regarding a ballot measure, the district is exploring the feasibility of a potential school facilities bond following a recent community survey that assessed voter awareness and perspectives.
As part of this process and through the ongoing Facilities Master Plan review, the district will refine facility priorities and gather additional input with TeamCivX to support communication, outreach, and development of materials to inform the community.
| | Angels visit schools ahead of Angels Family Night | |
This week, Laguna Beach elementary students enjoyed a special visit from members of the Angels organization, a valued annual tradition. Players shared their experiences as students and their journey to becoming professional athletes. The team reporter also highlighted her career path and helped recognize a select group of students who received signed baseballs from players in honor of their academic and character achievements.
This visit leads into the annual Angels Family Night on Friday, May 22, at 6:30 p.m. as the Angels take on the Texas Rangers at Angel Stadium. Families are invited to join this community event and support our local PTAs. Students can also take part in a special pre-game experience by bidding on opportunities such as throwing the first pitch, serving as a bat kid, or being a "play ball" announcer.
Tickets are $20 and available through May 6. A portion of each ticket and auction bid benefits Laguna Beach PTAs.
| Community invited to LCAP convening on April 30 | |
LBUSD invites students, families, staff, and community members to an LCAP Community Convening on Thursday, April 30, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at Laguna Beach High School.
The LCAP is the district’s three-year plan that outlines priorities, goals, and investments to support student success. Attendees will have the opportunity to review progress, learn more about school performance, and share input to help guide future decisions. Please register in advance; childcare will be available for students in grades K–5.
| LBHS to present spring dance concert April 24–25 | |
Laguna Beach High School invites the community to the Spring Dance Concert, featuring performances by the school’s dance program.
Join us for an evening of student choreography and performance that highlights creativity, technique, and collaboration. Performances will take place on April 24 at 7 p.m., and April 25 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. at LBHS.
| | Board revises Ad Hoc Committee on Governance Standards | |
At the April 23 meeting, the Board reviewed and discussed the Governance Committee's charge, membership, and the process for policy and bylaw development. The motion passed on a 3-2 vote.
The Board approved a motion to re-establish the Ad Hoc Committee on Governance Standards. Member Howard Hills and one additional Board member will serve on the committee. Consistent with the motion, students and members of the public may also participate. The committee will bring recommendations to the full Board for consideration. Governance committees are used by a number of California school districts.
| Board receives governance training on roles and best practices | |
The Board received a presentation from legal counsel on governance issues and best practices, including agenda development, access to information on agenda items, Board communication, and responses to community concerns.
Additional topics included school site visits, introducing new ideas, and appropriate processes for contacting legal counsel.
| Board continues discussion on enrollment and open enrollment options | |
At the April 23 meeting, the Board continued its discussion of enrollment trends and potential options to further define open enrollment. The discussion included funding, class sizes, enrollment impacts, admission parameters, interdistrict transfers, international students, and approaches used by other public school districts.
No action was taken. The Board may direct staff to return with additional information or a formal proposal for future consideration.
