LBUSD Board of Education holds Facilities Master Plan Study Session and Workshop

The Laguna Beach Unified School District (LBUSD) Board of Education held a Facilities Master Plan Study Session and Workshop on Tuesday evening, allowing staff and architects to present updated project proposals shaped by feedback received throughout the community engagement process. The workshop included a Q&A following the presentation to answer questions from the community.

At the meeting, the Board directed staff to move forward with cost estimation for the aquatic center, specifically for options that maintain the pool at 670 Park Avenue, as well as possible project timelines and preliminary mitigation studies to explore options associated with interim housing, noise reduction and traffic impacts at an upcoming study session in June. In addition, the joint meeting with the City of Laguna Beach on Tuesday, June 6, will include a discussion of the LBUSD Facilities Master Plan.

LBUSD's Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) for the year ending June 30, 2024

The Board of Education held a public hearing to receive public input and comments on the 2021-24 Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP). The LCAP is a three-year plan that describes the goals, actions, services, and expenditures to support positive student outcomes that address state and local priorities. It provides an opportunity for local educational agencies to share their stories of how, what, and why programs and services are selected to meet the needs of their school community. The 2022-23 school year was the second year for the three-year 2021-24 LCAP.

Student Instructional Calendars for 2024-25 and 2025-26 school years

At its regularly scheduled meeting on May 25, the Board approved student instructional calendars for the 2024-25 and 2025-26 school years. Staff presented three configurations to the Board for consideration; option three was approved, with the direction to move spring break in the 2025-26 school year to the week of March 30. You can view option three below. Please note that the change to spring break in the 2025-26 school year is not reflected in the calendars below, as they were presented to the Board.

LBHS Jazz Band brings home high scores from CoSA Coronado JazzFest

The LBHS Jazz Band earned a “Superior” rating at the CoSA Coronado JazzFest on May 9 at Coronado High School. The JazzFest, featuring over 20 middle and high school ensembles, returned for the first time this year after a three-year hiatus. Judges, who taught more than they judged, provided professional feedback to the students, helping them grow as musicians.

Your participation in an online auction will help provide the Maasai Village in Kenya with clean water. LBHS Model United Nations students are auctioning eight custom-painted 50-gallon rain barrels to provide the village with a permanent water infrastructure system. The auction will be open on ebid.net beginning on May 26, 2023, and will remain open until midnight on June 1.

Around the world with Thurston Middle School

Thurston Middle School hosted its open house on May 18, welcoming families with live performances from students in the instrumental program and a Global Village providing guests with an opportunity to experience the different cultures that students explore in world language classes.
