Top of the World Elementary Principal provides update on 2022-23 school year

Principal Meghan Schooler presented a mid-year update highlighting the school's growth in three district goal areas:


  1. College & Career-Readiness Skills
  2. Social-Emotional Competencies and Positive Self-Identity
  3. Safe, Equitable and Inclusive Schools


Ms. Schooler highlighted how the school creates a positive culture resulting in significant growth in the district goal areas through programs and activities embedded into everyday school life. Most recently, the school staff at Top of the World Elementary began nominating colleagues for surprise spotlights during the morning announcements, modeling a culture of gratitude and appreciation for students. In addition, teachers and school staff use a common language schoolwide to create lessons designed to foster awareness of self and others with space for play, curiosity and mistakes.

A look at Career Technical Education at LBUSD

Annual “Celebration of the Arts” showcases LBUSD student visual and performing arts talent 

LBUSD invites the community to a “Celebration of the Arts,” its annual showcase of student visual and performing arts talent at Laguna Beach High School on March 14 from 6 to 8 p.m.  The event will feature live performances from students in theatre, choir, wind and string ensembles, the jazz band and dance. The evening will also include an art exposition, sale, digital art, and film exhibit.

Board approves service agreement with Care Solace, Inc.

At its regularly scheduled meeting on Thursday evening, the Board took action to approve a contract with Care Solace, Inc., to provide students, families and all staff members confidential 24/7 web-based, email, telephone, or text-based support to search, identify and secure initial intake appointments with qualified local licensed mental health providers.

Board receives report on College and Career Advantage

LBUSD Coordinator of Career Education Kellee Shearer, College and Career Advantage (CCA) Executive Director Paul Weir, Ed.D., and Assistant Superintendent of Instructional Services Chad Mabery, Ed.D., presented a report on the Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses offered to LBUSD students and the industry-specific training opportunities that can lead directly to employment.
