On Wednesday, we are excited to welcome PNC Bank Senior Economic Advisor Stuart Hoffman on a webinar to discuss where the economy is and where we are headed. We’ll ask him about national, regional and Delaware trends and industries. Hoffman is a frequent guest commentator on national business news channels of every sort, and we look forward to his insights and ideas. You can register
here.
One view of the economy was shared on June 25th by the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities: “In the pandemic, the drop in payroll employment in April was huge and the turnaround in payroll employment in May reflects some lifting of pandemic restrictions in many states and some people returning to work. But the speed of the jobs recovery going forward will depend on the evolution of the virus and policymakers’ response, including the degree of social distancing measures and the extent to which policymakers continue to provide income support to unemployed workers and others struggling to make ends meet — as well as fiscal support to strapped state and local governments, which also stimulates economic activity.”
With spikes of the virus occurring in a few states and the public health situation very fluid, it’s important to keep close watch on “the data.” Having someone like Mr. Hoffman offer interpretations of economic information will be of keen interest to all. I hope you tune in.
In closing, let me wish everyone a Happy Independence Day weekend. This will be unlike any other Fourth of July weekend I’ve ever experienced, and I suspect that is true for many of you too. The limitations and changes brought on over the last few months have tested us all — some more personally than others. It does, however, make me appreciate all the freedoms we have grown accustom to and our thankfulness for those who sacrificed so we might enjoy life to its fullest.
