It's Celebration Week!

We're looking forward to seeing as many Zion people as possible this weekend at our various events! Thank you to John Bernardo and the New Pelican for such a wonderful article on the 65th Anniversary & Homecoming Celebration. (Click here to read the full article.)

Pictures from our awesome Sundae Sunday decorating Alleluia Banners. We enjoyed the delicious ice cream — thanks to all who set up and served! Our kids also made lots of new friends and the adults enjoyed the energy in the room. The fruits of our labor will be posted on Easter Sunday for all to see!

Opportunities to "Just Show Up"

Join Us for Ash Wednesday Worship

Wednesday, February 14th at 7:00 p.m.

On Ash Wednesday we begin our forty-day journey toward Easter with a day of prayer and repentance. Marking our foreheads with dust, we acknowledge that we die and return to the earth. While we journey through Lent to return to God, we know that Jesus has already finished the work of atonement for us.

Opportunities to Serve Joyfully & Give Selflessly

Spare Change & Soup

for Super Bowl Sunday

Beginning on Super Bowl Sunday (February 11th) and continuing through the end of February, you are invited to bring your spare change for a "noisy offering" and cans of soup to worship on Sunday mornings. The spare change will go toward buying additional shelf-stable items for our friends at Nina's Place.

If you find signing up online a challenge, please reach out to Cantor Kurt Schmidt and he will reserve your spot in the online sign up.

In partnership with Deerfield Beach Community Cares, we are hosting a series of classes on food and money for our Nina’s Place families. The first three weeks will cover food-related topics, be facilitated by Feeding South Florida, and be offered in English, Spanish, and Creole. The last two classes will cover budgeting and credit and be facilitated by First Horizon Bank.

Let’s demonstrate our Zion spirit of hospitality. We will help serve dinner, eat and learn with our neighbors, and end the evening with prayer. Holden Evening Prayer will also be livestreamed on Facebook and YouTube.

Transfiguration of Our Lord

Affirmation of Baptism for

Estela Nasia Raphael & Morgan David Clancy

Bishop Pedro Suarez Preaching & Presiding

The Sundays after Epiphany began with Jesus’ baptism and end with three disciples’ vision of his transfiguration. In Mark’s story of Jesus’ baptism, apparently only Jesus sees the Spirit descending and hears the words from heaven. But now Jesus’ three closest friends hear the same words naming him God’s Beloved. As believers, Paul writes, we are enabled to see the God-light in Jesus’ face, because the same God who created light in the first place has shone in our hearts to give us that vision. The light of God’s glory in Jesus has enlightened us through baptism and shines in us also for others to see.

Confirmation, also called Affirmation of Baptism, is the process of education, reflection, and formation that results in a young person or adult taking ownership of the promises made for them in baptism.  Very often, a confirmation student was baptized as an infant and the baptismal promises were made on their behalf. When they confirm or affirm their faith as a young adult, they promise to live among God’s faithful people, to hear the word of God and share in the Lord’s supper, to proclaim the good news of God in Christ through word and deed, to serve all people, following the example of Jesus, and to strive for justice and peace in all the earth.

Harmonies of Heritage

Week 2: Negro Spirituals

To honor Black History Month in the ELCA Florida-Bahamas Synod, the Just Love Team presents “Harmonies of Heritage: Music’s Journey Through Black Church History.” Each week in February, we will present a genre of music that impacted the heart and soul of America. Below, you will find a written history of that genre and videos with music representing it.
