Introducing the Creating Cape Cod Catalog!
Heritage is pleased to announce the publication of an exhibit catalog for our popular exhibition Creating Cape Cod. This catalog explores the Cape as it was in the past, from the era of locomotives and tourist hotels to the age of the road trip, as driving vacationers delighted in seafood restaurants, beach-side lodgings, and local roadside attractions.
Featuring new scholarship and research, the catalog examines the social landscape of twentieth-century Cape Cod, including essays by James C. O’Connell, a Cape Cod history scholar, and Director of Collections & Exhibitions, Jennifer Madden. The catalog also takes a close look at how prejudices affected ideas about who was welcome and who was not and includes a list of Cape Cod sites that advertised in Black travel guides like The Green Book. Dasia Peters, Communication Specialist for SmokeSygnals, also contributed an essay with perspectives on what this explosion of tourism and development has meant for the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe. The catalog retails for $18.50 at The Shop at Heritage.
Open daily from 10 am - 5 pm.

A Very Special Achievement
|
This past week, two of our most-esteemed colleagues, Director of Collections & Exhibitions Jennifer Madden, and Chief Program Officer Heather Mead, both celebrated 30 years with Heritage Museums & Gardens! We thank them for their dedication, their knowledge, their enthusiasm, their talent, their time, and their friendship.
State Representative Steve Xiarhos was on hand to present both Jennifer and Heather with commendations signed by Massachusetts Speaker of the House, Ronald Mariano. Jennifer and Heather, you make Heritage shine. Thank you!
