Faithful Departed

Carl Youngberg

It is with deep sadness that we inform you of the death of longtime member, Carl Youngberg, on January 25. Carl was an active leader in the Dallas and Richardson arts and culture scenes, and also served with distinction at Transfiguration, receiving the Tau Cross and Crown Award in 1984. We ask that you pray for the repose of Carl's soul and for the consolation of David, his spouse, and his wider family.

A Requiem Eucharist will take place on Friday, March 27, at 4:00pm.

Rest eternal grant to him, O Lord, and let light perpetual shine upon him. May Carl's soul and the souls of all the departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace and rise in glory.

Faithful Departed Update

Last week we announced the tragic loss of Sally Manning, and we are now able to announce that a Requiem Eucharist is scheduled for Saturday, February 14, at 1:00pm.

Racial Justice Ministry

Quarterly Meeting

The RJM quarterly meeting has been rescheduled to February 2 in the Parlor at 6:30 PM. The Mission of the Racial Justice Ministry is to work to transform hearts, minds and lives so that racial justice becomes firmly planted in our community. We strive to do this by celebrating diverse cultures and heritage through education, advocacy, and action to foster understanding within our church and beyond, so that all feel seen, heard, and loved. All are invited to attend our meeting and join in our ministry.

Modern Idols

False idols have always been with us: the golden calf in Exodus; the Asherah poles in the time of the prophets. Today, we are surrounded by false idols – by things that want us to treat them like God. They glow in our pockets and fill up our calendars. They make huge promises and ask for our devotion.

This Lent, we welcome an all-star lineup of speakers to help us be on the lookout for a few false idols. In troubling and complicated times, it’s essential that we put the fullness of our faith, love, and devotion in the only one who truly deserves it: God.

Join us for an introduction to Modern Idols on Sunday, February 8 in Roper Hall at 10:15am.

Sacred Ground Classes

Beginning Feb 8

10:15am - 11:00am | Parlor

Sacred Ground is a film and readings based dialogue series on race, grounded in faith. The 11-part series is built around a powerful curriculum of documentary films and readings that focus on Indigenous, Black, Latino, and Asian/Pacific American histories as they intersect with European American histories.

Sacred Ground is part of Becoming Beloved Community, The Episcopal Church’s long-term commitment to racial healing, reconciliation, and justice in our personal lives, our ministries, and our society. Participants are invited to peel away the layers that have contributed to the challenges and divides of the present day – all while grounded in our call to faith, hope and love.

A Gathering After The Table

February 14

Four times this year, we provide refreshments immediately following The Table to encourage fellowship and connections. This Gathering is a slider picnic dinner which will take place outside on the patio by the bell tower.

Dallas Area Interfaith Retreat

February 14

This past November, over 1,000 people came together at Temple Emanu-El to launch “Reimagine Dallas.” We were challenged to build a constituency in support of early childhood education, immigration, and housing affordability. We are taking the next step at DAI’s Organizing Retreat on Sunday February 15 from 2:00pm to 6:00pm at King of Glory Lutheran Church, (6411 LBJ Frwy, Dallas, TX - just down the street from us). We will learn valuable skills on building the constituency, give updates on each issue area, and set the calendar for 2026. To attend, please RSVP using the button below.

Spring Foyer Kickoff

It's time again for the Foyer Kickoff and Group Reveal on Sunday, February 15 at 4:00pm in Roper Hall. The Foyer Dinner Group Ministry provides a setting where Transfiguration members and returning guests get to know one another better through having meals together. This helps participants develop a sense of belonging and make friends in a small more intimate setting. Every February and August a large number of participants gather to be sorted into groups of 6 to 10 to host dinners to share in food, fun, and fellowship. Groups are assigned randomly and Foyer is one of the most popular ministries at The Fig! If you are not already part of Foyer and would like to sign up, click the button below to sign-up by February 1. If you participated in the last round of Foyer Dinners your are already included.

Household and Relationship Diversity Survey

All Episcopalians are invited to complete a 15-to-20-minute survey offered by the Task Force to Study Household and Relationship Diversity and designed to help the church better understand and support all its members.

Created by General Convention in 2022, the task force seeks “to create opportunities for discussion, reflection, and deepening of understanding about existing diversity of family relationships and households among congregations, dioceses, and throughout The Episcopal Church.”

Participants are encouraged to complete the survey no later than March 1.

VBS - Save the Date

Monday, June 1 - Friday, June 5

9:00am - Noon each day

Snowball Mountain Challenge invites kids to an exciting winter sports event where they become Challengers, gearing up for frosty games, snowy surprises, and hands-on lessons about resilience and faith. They will come to realize that with the strength God provides, they can share their gifts, be brave, give their all, pray, and hope. Your kids will be guided daily by the energetic Activities Director and the lovable Ollie the Arctic Seal puppet, who is reporting on the events. Challengers aren’t just playing games. Using their Challenge Companion (the Bible), they learn to draw strength from their faith through powerful stories, while connecting the learnings to Bible Stories and Lift Lessons (Key Learnings). With a unique winter theme and solid theology at its core, Snowball Mountain Challenge VBS delivers joy and meaning in equal measure, teaching kids that “I can do all things through God who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13, NRSV).

Children's

Chapel

In Children’s Chapel kids are able to experience scripture, prayer, song, and worship in a way they can understand and enjoy. Children are able to attend this service while parents attend the regular Sunday Holy Eucharist at 9:00am. We meet on in the Gathering Space prior to the service.

Faith Formation

Children's Formation

Wee Wonder shares God’s love with our youngest children by introducing them to God through song, action rhymes, Bible stories and responsive play. It is open to children agest 2-3.

Godly Play is a Montessori-based curriculum for children 4 years-old through 5th grade that follows the pattern of Christian worship and our church seasonal calendar. It teaches children religious language through sacred stories, parables and liturgical action, as well as enhances their spiritual experience through wonder and responsive play.

Youth Formation

Formation for our Youth (grades 6-12) takes place in the Youth Center from 10:15am - 11:15am on Sunday morning.

Crossover on Wednesdays at 6:30pm is a time for our Youth (6th – 12th grade) to unwind from the stresses of growing up. The core of Crossover is Food, Faith, Fellowship, and Fun. Crossover is a dynamic group, and an excellent way to be involved and grow in the life of the Transfiguration Community.
