"Notice that

is more the season of the

soul than of nature"

Fall Thoughts by TIP Executive Director

Happy start of Fall! My second favorite time of year. I love pulling out all the sweaters, fuzzy socks and fluffy blankets from my closets.  I feel inspired in the kitchen.  Primarily because it’s the beginning of soup season and Thanksgiving, which is my absolute favorite holiday, is right around the corner.  While I’m not a fan of earlier nightfall, I love the mix of urges to begin hibernating more while also still enjoying time spent outdoors.  Warm days and cool nights; it’s truly the best of both worlds, in my opinion!

A focus I’ve promised myself this season is strengthening my self-care rituals and healthy habits.  With holiday season just around the corner and a new grandchild arriving soon, life will be busy so I want to be incredibly dialed in to the habits that help me feel my best before the whirlwind begins. When it comes to caring for my mental health, I’m a firm believer that being proactive is the best approach; making intentional choices that help me remain in a grounded place.

My Fall Faves

Currently Loving:   my plumeria and night blooming jasmine which are still in bloom and fill my garden with the most amazing scents

Currently Reading:   Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice

Currently Watching:   when I have time to sit and watch, it’s House of Dragon or true crime biographical documentaries

Currently Practicing:   daily meditations, routine gym sessions and intentional reduced screen time

What are some of your self-care favorites?

It's Fire Prevention Month!

If a fire starts in your home, you may only have as little as two minutes to escape! It is important to have working smoke alarms and a fire escape plan. Check out some tips from the American Red Cross.

Meet TIP Volunteer Lynne

Six years ago, Lynne heard about TIP from a friend during a Bible study group. When she first learned about the program, she thought about how impactful it would have been for her young nieces to have a TIP volunteer when her brother died from cancer. Her nieces were living in Texas, and Lynne felt helpless not being able to immediately support them in person. Reflecting on this experience, Lynne was motivated to join TIP and be there for others during their time of need by providing the immediate support she wishes her nieces had. Since joining TIP six years ago, Lynne has become an integral part of the team and has also spent the last four years serving as a TLD. When Lynne isn’t volunteering with TIP, she works as a caseworker and serves with multiple other non-profits. She currently works with the American Red Cross on the Condolence Care Team and she also volunteers with the Elizabeth Hospice Children’s Bereavement Program. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her children, grandchildren, dogs and friends. Fun fact about Lynne – she went to high school with Patrick Swayze and took tap and ballet classes at his mom’s dance studio!
