Voting early ensures you will make it to the polls, rather than risking last-minute delays and missing your opportunity to vote on Election Day.

Voting early means shorter lines, and less pressure on pollworkers on election day.
YES, YOU CAN STILL REGISTER
You can still register to vote in person and vote the same day at your early voting site or Election Day polling place. Online voter registration is closed.

In-person registration requires two forms of ID, one with a home address. Find a list of acceptable ID in the Illinois Voter Guide.
VOTING BY MAIL?
Mail-in ballots must be postmarked by Election Day, April 4, and must be received by April 18.

You can return your completed mail-in ballot to a secure drop box by Election Day. Find drop box times and locations at your election authority or at IllinoisVoterGuide.org.

BALLOT DIDN'T ARRIVE?
If you requested but did not receive a mail-in ballot, you will be allowed to vote at an early voting site or on Election Day with a provisional ballot. First you will complete an affidavit stating the ballot was never received or that it was received and lost.

CHANGED YOUR MIND?
If you still have your mail-in ballot but decide you want to vote in person, you can! Turn in your ballot at your early voting location or on Election Day at your polling place. Your mail-in ballot will be voided, and you will be given a new ballot to vote in person.

If you already submitted your mail-in ballot, you cannot retract it. You have voted!
VOTING IN PERSON
Input your address at IllinoisVoterGuide.org to find out where and when you can vote.

If you make a mistake on your in-person ballot, you can request a new one.

You have the right to receive assistance from poll workers.

If your name isn't on the list of voters, ask if you are in the correct polling place. If you are in the right place, you have the right to register and vote.

If you believe you are registered but your records cannot be found, you have the right to re-register and vote a provisional ballot. Your pollworker must inform you that day of the next steps that will need to be completed by April 18, 2023.

As long as you are in line by the time the polls close at 7:00 pm on Election Day, you will be allowed to cast your vote!

Under certain circumstances, Illinois law grants eligible employees up to two hours paid leave in order to vote. Learn more. Or vote early! Type your address into IllinoisVoterGuide.org to find times and locations.
By law, polling locations must be fully accessible to meet ADA requirements.

You are allowed to bring a person of your choice to assist you in voting.

Curbside Voting: Election authorities can allow a voter with a permanently or temporary disability to vote from their car on Election Day, monitored by two election judges, who will bring the voter a ballot and return it to the ballot box. You must request curbside assistance one day prior to Election Day.

  • Be a “voting buddy”—make a date to go to the polls or drop off your mail-in ballots with another voter, or two (or three!). 
  • Hold people you know accountable. Call them and ask when they plan to vote. Early? By mail? On election day? Call them again to make sure they have voted.
