We’re Halfway Through the Semester! Please leave your shoes at the door…

 

Hello, Spartans! I hope you all are doing well and taking care of yourselves. With midterms and school in full swing, make sure to practice self-care and find ways to bring out your inner child! If no one’s told you yet, I am proud of you; keep pushing through! Please stay safe on and off campus by making sure to follow COVID-19 guidelines. Associated Students’ Programming Board will be on 7th Street, Monday, October 17th, from 10am-12pm providing drinks, snacks, and school supplies for midterm support! Make sure to swing by for some caffeine, scantrons, and a bite to eat on your way to or from class. 

 

President of Associated Students, Nina Chuang, is hosting a picnic outside the A.S. House on Friday, October 28 at 1pm. Come voice any concerns and address your needs directly to the President/CEO of Associated Students. Snacks and Spartan swag will be provided.

 

SJSU Homecoming 2022: Reign of Blue & Gold is right around the corner! Spirit week will start on Monday, October 24 leading up to our home game on Saturday, October 29. Event details at go.sjsu.edu/homecoming22. Make sure to vote for your next Homecoming Royalty through our Instagram @as_sjsu

 

As part of Homecoming, the A.S. Events team will be hosting the 15th Annual Fire on the Fountain on October 27th. Join us on Tower Lawn to see fire dancers, homecoming athletics, your homecoming court, and many student organization performances! There will be free food, giveaways, special guests, and more! If you are looking to volunteer, please sign up by October 20th at tinyurl.com/FOTFVolunteer2022.

 

Get involved with Student Government by joining as a student-at-large in one of the various A.S. committees! From voting on city/university policies, to directly planning events you want to see on campus, find more information here. Funding is also available to Recognized Student Organizations at sjsu.edu/as/funding.php

  

The A.S. Board of Directors holds regular meetings on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month at 3pm. The next meeting will be on October 26th. Feel free to join any of our meetings in Student Union Meeting Room 1A or virtually through Zoom! We look forward to seeing you.

Homecoming brings together current students, faculty, and staff and welcomes alumni back to campus in celebration of Spartan Pride at San José State University. Over the years, Homecoming has become an annual tradition encompassing a week of fun-filled events all aimed at showcasing school spirit. Go Spartans!

Transportation Solutions

Happy Transit Month, Spartans!


Associated Students' Transportation Solutions (TS) has a variety of services to support students and their travel needs. Visit our website to learn about our promotions and travel options that are sustainable, accessible, and affordable! On our page, you will find information on how students can get free unlimited access to local VTA transit, regional transit options and discounts, resources for biking, and affordable car rentals! These options help you commute, explore life off campus, or get you back home for the weekend! Below are some programs we would highlight as some of our special promos this Fall.


Zipcar Driving Credits

TS is offering new members $15 in driving credit for Zipcar, a short-term car rental service that allows students 18 years old with a driver's license to rent cars on campus or within walking distance.


SJSU Lyft Evening Ride

TS, in partnership with UPD Parking Services, is offering enrolled students with hybrid and in-person classes Lyft credits to support safety for evening travel. Eligible students can obtain three $10 credits per month for late-night rides to or from the campus during the eligible time windows. For more information, visit our Lyft Evening Ride Pilot Page.


BikeShare For Housing

TS is offering housing students 6, 30-minute free Lyft Bike Rides on class bikes per month. These stations are located near campus and all around the city. Check your email from Lyft Business for instructions on how to sign up.


BikeShare For All 

Students enrolled in PG & E Care, and CalFresh qualify for a one-year Lyft Baywheels membership for just $5. Baywheels allows students to rent bikes from stations all around the city! Students can obtain a code for a free membership by emailing TS at transportation@sjsu.edu. Limited codes are available.

NEXT GENERATION

CAMPUS COMMUNITY GARDEN FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM

Six Consecutive Fridays from February 10 to March 17, 2023

 

Gain a deeper understanding of environmental justice issues; Develop confidence in leadership skills; Meet students with similar interests in environmental justice; Learn hands-on gardening and farming skills; and, Earn a $1,000 stipend after completion of the program.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Passion for environmental justice
  • Submit a 250-word essay
  • GPA of 2.5 and higher
  • Good academic standing
  • Good conduct standing

MANDATORY MEETING DATES

  • Summit: Friday, February 10, 10am-3pm
  • Session 1: Friday, February 17, 9am-12pm
  • Session 2: Friday, February 24, 9am-12pm
  • Session 3: Friday, March 3, 9am-12pm
  • Session 4: Friday, March 10, 9am-12pm
  • Celebration: Friday, March 17,12-2pm
