It's Gonna be MAY:

Staying in Sync with

The Free Books Project!

Dearest gentle readers:

They say April is the cruelest month, but ours has been full of kindness. Hope yours has, too!

We kicked off the month with pop-up libraries at Story Time with Tom Tracy in Blackwood and A Day for Bunnies at the KROC Center, as well as live ark painting with Brein Mortez and Priscilla Rios at the South Jersey Children's Book Festival.

We honored our friend Anthony with a memorial pop-up library at Broadway and Atlantic, and we have a feeling he was smiling down as we shared memories of him over refreshments and (his favorite!) free books. We will never forget you, Anthony. Rest in peace, dear friend.

Our very own Marketing and Development Director, Amy Saul-Zerby, and our fearless leader Tom provided programming for the Kids Alley crew this month with story time, an Easter egg hunt, a poetry writing exercise, and fun outdoor activities. As always, it was our pleasure to spend time with these great kids!

Our graphic novel drive at Rutgers-Camden is still going strong! The wonderful Feroza Aziz has been tabling at the campus center to spread the word, & Amy contributed cookies for a pop-up bake sale supporting the cause.

If you have comics you'd like to donate, bins are located in the Paul Robeson Library lobby, the Rutgers-Camden Campus Center, and at the Cooper Street entrance (319 Cooper St.) and the drive goes through the rest of the semester!

We treasure our partnership with Rutgers-Camden so much, and it was an honor for our founder & executive director Tom Martin to receive a Chancellor’s Award for Diversity, Inclusion, and Community Engagement this month!

Last but not least, we were thrilled to welcome our first Patreon subscriber!

Many thanks to Portia Simmons for her generous support of The Free Books Project. It truly means the world to us. If you would like to support us in our mission, subscribing to our Patreon is a great way to help us continue to work to improve literacy access in Camden and beyond.
