Happy Holidays from the History Foundation
As 2018 draws to a close, I am reflecting on the warm and gracious reception we received as we traveled the state this year. Our work took us to Havre, Chinook, Great Falls, Marysville, Boulder, Elkhorn, Fort Benton, Polson, Bigfork, Columbia Falls, Kalispell, Whitefish, Missoula, Butte, Bozeman, Big Sky, Billings, Red Lodge, Lewistown, Miles City, Glendive, and Sidney. What a terrific year!

When we travel, we help communities identify and plan historic interpretation and preservation projects . We meet with donors who care about preservation, and we put their generous dollars to work where they can make the biggest difference: local community projects. Thanks to our donors, more than 30 individual community-based projects were funded in 2018 . Next year we’ll extend our reach to even more cemeteries, historic schoolhouses, museums, theaters, and historic trails. It’s all part of bringing people together for history!

Wishing you a wonderful holiday season,
Charlene Porsild, President/CEO
Preserve your historic cemetery
Remember how we hosted a Cemetery Preservation Technology Workshop in June?

After months of post-production work, we are thrilled to announce that the training video and resource webpage are now live and available for your training purposes.

Don't forget! The History Foundation offers grant funding specific to historic cemeteries and sacred sites. If this training video or webpage inspires a preservation project in your area, apply for a History Foundation grant. Our grant application is open now through January 25, 2019 at 3:00 p.m.
Meet the board
The work we are able to accomplish would be impossible without the dedication and support from our board of directors.

We were sad to see some long-time board members term out in 2018, including Chris Warden, Rockwood Brown and Sidney Armstrong.

However, we are excited to introduce some new faces. Welcome Debora Brown from Billings and Beth McFadden from Great Falls! See here for a list of our current board members .
Give to history
The season of giving is upon us. We hope that you will continue to give generously and ask that you consider some other tax-friendly giving options:

  1. Donate your IRA distribution.
  2. Make an endowment gift and qualify for the Montana Endowment Tax Credit.
  3. Give appreciated securities and tax.

There is still plenty of time before the end of this year to make your historic gift!
